Great beer, but I'm going to have to disagree with insta-whale status.

Logsdon Peche, Armand & Tommy, Blacknote and a couple Uprights come to mind, but mostly due to limited production.

I think Ann set a new benchmark. I never remember a beer hitting whale-status so quickly.

I read this board almost daily. By the time I'd first heard of Ann, it was already a whale.

I've been hearing rumors of this for years now. Is it actually confirmed?

No kidding. People can't even trade Izzy for it. That seriously blows my mind.

Outside of the ones that have already been mentioned I'll throw FFF's Battle Priest into the mix.
People go nuts for Three Floyd's releases but with no warning on a random Tuesday afternoon FFF posted on their FB page that Battle Priest was now for sale ($35 a bottle, limit 1). People went nuts; it was sold out in a matter of hours....on a Tuesday....in the middle of the day...with no warning. Then last week they announced another release and same thing happened.

a few things to use to gage insta-wales (not even considering the beer's taste)
    1) ISO posts go up even before 95% of BA's have even heard of the beer
    2) ISO posts go up well in advance of any FT posts
    3) limited bottle counts (<500)
    4) A waxed bottle with handwritten label (how else do you know its good )

Biggest insta-whale I can think of this year is Framboos.. Sub 1000 bottle count, once a decade special Framboise sour release. This will be a monster whale in the next several years like its predecessor.

Are we talking about an instawhale or a shelfwhale? Many times a instawhale is a shelfwhale but not all shelfwhales are instawhales. It matters! Also is it a D.O.N.G.? It it a D.O.N.G. instawhale?

All of these distinctions need to be made before properly gouging traders on this website.

sometimes there's a movie that everyone wants to see, just because of who directed it and who stars in it. everyone goes to see it the first day. they love it. the movie was an instant hit, and people keep on seeing it for days to come.

other times, a movie comes out that everyone wants to see. a ton of people go out and see it the first day, and the majority of them report back that the movie sucked. reviewers also go to the premier and write about how bad the movie was. in subsequent days, not as many people go and see the movie.

such are the mysterious ways of the planet earth...
