My cousin just asked if there are any low-carb beers. She has a friend who likes beer, but hates carbonation. I suggested a hard pour, and then pouring between a couple glasses until acceptable, or opening the beer and leaving it in the fridge. But, are there any low carbonation beers out there? (Insert Lost Abbey/HotD jokes here)

It seems like whenever I open a beer that is flat or has low carbonation it is a stout or porter. I doubt that it is intended by the brewer, and I haven't noticed any consistency in which beers are notorious for this to be able to point you to certain ones. If your cousin likes stouts or porters then maybe the odds are better by trying these.

Cask versions of beers will be his best bet I think. Not always the biggest variety but most 'beer bars' tend to have 1 these days.

Something on nitro seems to have very little carbonation to me. And cask like mentioned above is a great option as well.

I'd have suggested a hard pour, too. In my experience, the Spieglau IPA glass is by far the easiest glass to release a ton of carbonation.

Strongs/barleywines usually aren't very carbonated in my experience, especially the oaked/barrel ones.

i second the hanssens, they may be very sour though. or homebrew. i purposely lowcarb my saisons and pils for my fishing trips and lake trips. sometimes you may have to take matter into your own hands and brew some. holding growlers past 24hours is the easier method.

Imperial Stouts? Am I wrong? I'm surprised they haven't been mentioned.

A lot of barrel-aged beers have low carbonation or none at all.

I recently had Mikkeller's Big Worst barleywine and was floored, top-10 beer for me. It had NO carbonation that I could detect.

De Cam Oude Lambiek. Drinks like a white wine.

3F Doesjel "lazy lambic" also top notch. They can be a little hard to find, but I'm sure a nice BA could hook you up.

    Cheers!

Honestly I bet pouring it into a glass will probably do the trick. Out of a bottle most beer is too carbonated for me, and in my experience everyone who isn't a beer geek drinks straight from the bottle.

I'm speculating that in this friend of a friend chain the importance of glassware might be lost.
