I want to get some Heady Topper and I'm new to the whole beer trading thing and not really sure what would be some good Wisconsin beer to offer up. I'm not familiar with the value system of trading and don't want to post anything super bogus. Thanks in advance!

Do you have access to any New Glarus stuff? If so that would be a good starting point and id imagine that you should be able to land some Heady with it.

I figured New Glarus would be a good starting point but wasn't sure if there was a specific type or if it would take a limited release or something like that

New Glarus fruits are always a good start, they should get it done. If not if you can get Cran-bic or something along those lines itll work too.

    Good Luck!

I would wait 2-3 months.because of shipping issues due to the temperature but after that someone should bite. New Glarus is a draw in new england

My first trade was for Heady as well (and some Maine Beer Co. stuff). I am from Wisconsin. I traded NG fruit beers $4$. As stated before, Cranbic would probably work as well, or Enigma (if it comes out soon, as rumored).

Central Waters BA Stout is still all over the place, that should get you Heady at $4$ as well. Black Husky stuff might work, if you have access to that.

Good luck, shouldn't be too hard if you are patient. Don't feel you have to give away a ton, here in WI we have some good stuff to trade!

Do pay attention to temperatures though as pointed out above

As a regular Heady trader (no offers please) If I were you I would:

Wait until at least until the second week of January ( holiday parties, people home to see family, brewery holidays).
NG would be a great place to start, savy Vermonters know good beer and NG certainly has their fair share.
BA stuff from Central Waters is another offer that ususally gets a good response..

I do plan on waiting especially because I currently have nothing to offer, I figured with holidays it would be tough to come accross as mentioned above with holiday parties and such going on. I appreciate everyones help and advice! Now its time to stock up on some good trade options!

Not sure how much is distributed in WI, but I have a trade partner in WI that has access to Toppling Goliath...anything by them could surely land you some Heady as well.

NG Fruit beers are fantastic, it should land some HT, but sometimes I wonder, it's not rare its released every week, but it still looks like responses for HT are light or non existent for trades that look very attractive. If your in HT land and you can restock on a weekly basis then why not? In this case NG Thumbprint series was terrific, and you can't get it outside a small distro area. I can understand if its a 3 hour drive to the Waterbury area, but if your fairly local it would seem like their would be more FT Heady than ISO's.

    Facts:
Most places that sell Heady Topper normally sell out within a couple hours of receiving it.
Most places receive their Heady Topper deliveries during normal working hours.
Most of the cars in the parking lots around delivery time have out of state liscense plates.
Most of us work during normal working hours.

Contrary to common belief, it is not as easy for locals to obtain volumes of Heady Topper for trading. If we do happen to get some, we need to put effort into it, not just walk into a store anytime time and buy it off the shelf.

I tried Marshall Z also. Same results. Hell, I got FFF, Nebco, even Pliney. But those Heady fans are tough.

This would be easily solved if the cannery would open again.

Not really as they closed by 5pm and on the weekends the parking lot was mobbed with out of state cars.

When it was open , I walked in and out , no line no waiting, bought a few cases and was gone in 5 minutes. I've only been to Vt 3 times but it was never anything but easy. Haven't been back since they closed, my visits coincide with visits to my son in Watertown NY, and we hit in early Dec. I'm not doing that drive in the winter for free beer, can't Imagine HF on wintery kinda roads. But I went on a Monday the first time and I believe a Wed the rest, I would imagine Fri/ Sat would be a zoo.

I'm no geography major but I do know that Vermont isn't very big my man. Out of state plates for a good beer is to be expected isn't it? My sentiment isn't that locals are hoarding the Heady, my thinking is that it should just be a little easier to trade for than it is-

OP I would say one more thing: that forming lasting beer relationships is the key. If you want Heady Topper and its your first trade go over the top if Ya know what you're offering is sought after but shelf/easily accessible on your end. This'll make a very positive first impression, keep in touch, and be cool. I know that sounds obvious, but if you do that, chances are you won't have to trade for Heady Topper in the future, you can just reach out to your friend and ask for it.
