Interesting SPON article about new Berlin breweries

    More and more of these articles appearing every day it seems. I could easily see Berlin leading the way in a "revival" of German brewing. Let's hope one of these breweries gives it a go with reviving some of the excellent old versions of Berliner Weisse.

    There does seem to be some media focus on the matter lately.

    We do need to get away from the concept that there's anything even remotely like "German brewing" though. Germany by and large is an artificial concept that's barely 150 years old and brewing is so much older and so incredibly different by region. There certainly seems to be a lot going on in Berlin (and the surrounding state of Brandenburg too) and that is a very good thing.

    Thanks for that, I read a few of your other blog posts about Berlin also, this will all be very useful to me when I visit in October.
    Maybe I will take a few of my local bottles for the dude in Berlin Bier Shop.

    You're visiting in October? You will have a wonderful time! Let me know where you end up visiting.

    If you can fit them in your luggage, definitely bring some stuff for Rainer. Maybe send him an email first and let him know you're coming; you might be able to do a trade. They also have semi-frequent tastings, and I'm sure the crowd there would love to taste some awesome American beers!
