Has anyone seen something like this before?

It looks like one of the packages I sent via UPS was "damaged". And for those of you that have received boxes from me, this is nearly impossible. I bomb-proof boxes or use wine shippers. Anyway, it looks like though the box is still being delivered to the recipient. What's not listed below is that the estimated delivery time has now changed to tomorrow (instead of today).

I read multiple times here that packages that are damaged usually get sent back or thrown away. Maybe some folks may find this interesting.

    Cheers!

    Joe

/ Damaged merchandise discarded, balance being delivered.

What this means in Layman's terms:
Prefered beers in shipment have been drank
    remainder to be delivered

haha I would expect that and of course I will make this trade whole for the other trader. I just thought it was interesting that they still are delivering the "balance" (regardless of what they mean by "balance" :grinning:)

I've had bottles break, where they re-pack the ones that didn't, and send them on their way.

I only ship through a UPS location that has an alcohol license now..... so not only can I claim it as "beer" I can insure it for whatever I want, and if it break (while being properly packaged) they'll cut me a check still.

This box made it to me, and back to the shipper, and there was a BROKEN BOTTLE IN IT when it was returned to the shipper. It spent 6 (SIX!) days at what looks like 4 (FOUR!) different FedEx locations while being shipped back with a broken bottle in it. Happy it wasn't destroyed along the way, but certainly another odd one. Same story, different carrier.

It's possible in he summer heat for bottle conditioned beers to just blow.

Had it happen with a can of HT I sent in a wine styro.

I wonder if the guys that opened the box even knew what they were looking at to begin with...

Anyway, I thought it was odd that they were continuing to ship the box. It will be interesting to see what is in the box once I get it opened.

Unless you literally bomb-proof your boxes, there is nothing you can do to pack to stop things like a forklift puncturing the box or a truck running over it. It happens. As noted, it's also quite possible that a bottle just blew in the heat.

I worked at a distribution center for UPS for 6 years any 'leaking' package is handled as a leaking 'Haz-Mat' package and taken back to a nice little work area with green plastic covering it. The box is handled by an employee in a smock, gloves, and safety glasses and the leaking liquid (once the MSDS sheet has been checked) is loving poured onto cat liter and placed in a large steel barrel (Barrel aging anyone??). They are also trained 'Repackage' certified specialists so no worries... they take care and love on boxing it up. It's a judgement call but if there is 80% or more of the original shipment intact it is sent on, otherwise it is RTS (returned to sender)

It was my experience that whenever there was a leaking package it was like a 40 minute break...

Same thing has happened to me. Box was damaged early in the process, but made it to destination only to disappear.

There was a recent thread about this, with the general consensus being either switch shipping companies or open a different account in your s/o's name and business as usual. Not just saying this because I want to finish that trade, btw .

I like to double down with trash bags when wrapping my boxes (If it's a 6 or 12 styro shipper, definitely double bag it) just to slow down/eliminate any potential leaks.

Back in high school we did something called the egg drop where we dropped an egg two stories without it breaking. I apply the same principles to boxes I send out. I cannot stress how useful padded envelopes are for wrapping bottles.

Haha, when you do come up to Seattle (or when I make it down to LA, whichever is faster), we will do IP. I still got 2 KDSs saved for you.

    I actually had a FedEx sticker saying thie original box was damaged, but the entire contents were enclosed. Yeah, minus an RIS, a saison, and a BA ale. Everything else was there though :}

Beer/Wine store that is also a UPS out-post. I can Write "Fragile BEER" on the box, and request an adult signature if I want..... all on the up-and-up.

I don't know..... I guess it's never come up. I just know that it's always listed as "Beer" and if it breaks UPS will send me a check.

So what happens from the trading perspective in these cases?

I am in a rare case where we were both sending some mini whales...

My guy asked me to wait to ship...so i havent shipped yet.

Now that i know I wont be getting my box, i dont really want to send him mine...

Really sucks for both of us, but am i being a jerk?

(As a side note i dont know that he has multiples of the primary of the trade)
