I tried this Berliner the other day and on top of having a great name, it was really good. I live in MA and have never heard of The Tap Brewing Company out of Haverhill. Anyone know if they bottle and if their other beers are any good?
Haven't tried anything else. Luckily stumbled on to that beer last year when asking about Gose at a local shop. Really good option. Don't see it mentioned on here enough.
They bottle some of their other offerings. Small distro footprint. You can get bottles at the brewery. Intergalactic Acid is one of my favorite offerings from them. Usually about 8 beers on tap a time along with a cask. I got to their brewery all the time as it is down the street from my house. Nothing mindblowing but solid enough. I also like their Joshua Norton RIS series.
They have a bunch of solid offerings. The Joshua Norton is excellent. They do an old ale that I really like, too, called Snow Bound. Their maple porter is also very good. Intergalactic is such a good beer. I'd say those four are probably their best, all seasonals. But the brewpub is good and I'd recommend going. Waitstaff is friendly, food is outstanding (get the chicken and waffles), and there's not a bad beer on the menu, but if you're looking for a hop-forward beer list, you probably won't get it.
It sounds like The Tap is signed with Craft Collective (I believe they were mentioned in one of Craft Collective's last newsletter) so you might see them more on shelves. I guess they had only been selling out of the brewpub for a while. Another vote from me for the Norton and Intergalactic Acid - my two favorite beers from them.
Actually, they used to do a Gose (way before it was cool) and it was one of the better ones anywhere. It was the brewer before the last brewer, so two brewers ago. Don't know if they still do it but it's one worth seeking out. It was only on tap.
I like their IPA. Nice 5% ale that beats the hell out of the new session IPAs with just a touch more alcohol. The rest of the shelf options outside of the seasonals I've found under whelming. In my experience at the brew pub they kill it with lager styles an cask options. Intergalactic acid is a very good Berliner as well. It was 3.50 a bomber last year. Hopefully that didn't go up too much.
I second their IPA, Leather Lips. I haven't had it in a year or so, but I remember it being a nice solid option. Thankfully, they rebranded in the past few years, as they had some of the absolute worst labels I'd ever seen. Intergalactic Acid is a really nice example of a standard Berliner at 3%. Add a little woodruff and it's excellent. $3.50 is crazy cheap too. I think I was buying it closer to $5 when I saw it the past few years.
This is true. My purchase and consumption of their beers went up exponentially when I didn't have to walk out of a store with a beer with a leather-clad biker lady on the packaging. Now if we can only get clown shoes to follow suit.
I enjoy sitting on their outdoor patio overlooking the river. I also liked that they served the Berliner with the traditional syrups.
They are a solid brewery with really solid prices. Nothing mind blowing as others have said, but with that price point, it works really nicely.
Price jumped substantially at least at the beer shops. (About doubled) I bought one but it will likely be my last that's not on tap at the brewery.
The target retail price is $5.99/bottle. If you see it out there for substantially more than that please BM me.
I bought it for $6.75. I don't know if that is substantially more than the target but it is up substantially (2.25 over last year and 75c from this years target) from last year.
And they did session IPAs way before they were cool as stated above. Leatherlips has been around for a long time, and has always been labeled as a regular IPA. At 5% you could easily call it a session IPA, but it definitely drinks like a regular.
They brewed a dark euro lager last year called darko miliczech (amazing reference if you get it) it was 3.5% and one of the best beers on tap and on cask I had all last year. Hoping it comes back. The cask version was a mind blower. They nitro'd it at some point and it hurt the ratings IME.
I went to the Tap Friday night for a pre-dinner beer. I can't stress how underrated this place is. I'm a homer, probably, but the food is excellent and the beer is such a nice change up from the current scene of craft beer. If you're looking to go out and hammer home a couple juicy double dry-hopped IPA's, it probably isn't your place, but if you're looking to add some diversity and just drink quality German inspired beers, the Tap is the spot.
