I'm looking to send a box to Canada. I'm using UPS and am filling out all of the shipping information. I know to mark it as a gift, collectible glassware, and keep the customs value relatively low. I read past threads and links with advice on shipping internationally, so I feel pretty comfortable about what to do. My issue is the "Bill Duties and Taxes to:" section. Why can't I bill this to the same credit card I'm using to pay for the shipment? The options it gives me in the drop-down are: -Use another UPS shipper account -Bill another third party -Bill the receiver All of these options, when chosen, require me to enter a UPS shipping account number. Why can I not choose to bill myself?! Has anyone run into this before?
Hmm that is odd. Simple solution, use Fedex. Setup an account online quickly, and it automatically shows you which forms to fill out. Fill them out correctly and state the value as less than $30ish and you should never get anyone charged a fee. Worked for me 3 times so far. This site has been helpful to me and my trading partners from CA. Especially the info on the harmonized code, which I didn't use the first time I shipped and the package was nearly opened and took 3 phone calls to customs to clear it up, though the UPS employee I dropped it off with completely screwed up the customs forms (hence why I will always use Fedex now).
Thanks for your reply! So here's the thing...I use FedEx for all my trading and I have an account set up. That's the first thing I tried. I've tried countless times on multiple different days but FedEx won't work for me. The main problem was that I couldn't get a quote when I hit "calculate". Tried that (with entering ALL information in again and again) and I couldn't get a price quite. Then after doing that 10+ times, I said screw it because I wanted to ship it regardless so I just put all of my card into in and hit "next" without a quote, and without know what the cost would be. I figured if it was exorbitant, I wouldn't get charged unless I actually shipped it, so no big deal. But when I hit next to confirm everything, I got an error screen saying it wasn't working at this time and please call whatever phone number for assistance. It wasn't just a "oh it's not working now I'll try again" issue. I tried this multiple times on Thursday, Friday, and Monday. So yeah. After all of that with FedEx, I tried UPS and I'm running into other problems there.
Otherwise than their site being down, I can't imagine what issue FedEx would give you. I would give it another try though, I just shipped something out yesterday and had no issues filling it out online and getting the shipping quotes.
Yeah, I've used FedEx 20+ times and have never run into this issue. I have been trying on FedEx since Thursday and still, nothing. I'm starting to this this trade (or lack thereof) is cursed
I haven't shipped beer to Canada, but I have done so with hockey gear. It can be a real pain in the ass getting stuff through customs. I've gone from something being there in 2 days, to being held up for weeks before clearing. Just an FYI. There doesn't seem to be a lot of rhyme or reason for it. And it may only be limited to my personal experiences, but about half of what I sent seemed to get caught in some sort of red tape/extra screening/have the deliveree call to confirm address type stuff.
Try FedEx again, but try the postal code with and without a space in it, and make sure you have no spaces at the end. I can't remember if it's with our without the space in the middle but one works and one doesn't and it really doesn't tell you why... (Oh, and I haven't forgotten about your BM, so I may still have Cantillon for you. I just don't know what's in the box I'm getting still...)
