can't remember how my urine smelled but the beer smelled like someone ate a bunch of asparagus and pissed in a bottle and added a hint of lemon. didn't taste too bad though, the grilled flavor came through surprisingly well.

I really enjoyed the first bottle I had. Second one though was horrible. The peanut butter taste was definitely artificial. I'd give it another shot though. Third time is a charm.

Wait a minute, I think I know where that came from  Glad to hear you thought it was interesting, it was one of my favorites from a trip to Traverse City, great for some BBQ!

No idea how the peanut butter taste in Liquid Bliss can be described as artificial. Now, if you said 'more like boiled peanuts than PB", then I could totally agree and understand.

They used both boiled peanuts and peanut butter in LB, but I never tasted anything other than a big slab o' boiled peanuts.

After having Sweet Baby Jesus, Big Gruesome, and the legendary No Crusts, there is no doubt in my mind, however, that Liquid Bliss was the 'worst' of the ones I had, though not bad overall.

Interesting. How ripe?? Before it turns into brown mush?

That chips & salsa beer was indeed terrifying. I had a bartender describe it as making out with someone who had just eaten chips and salsa and having them burp in your mouth...pass

Basically; the avocado in question was surprisingly somewhat green but was very very soft and yeah basically before it was worthless. I have no idea how it would fair as an ingredient in beer, but intrigued me...may try to brew it one day. Apparently someone has beat me to it...

If I want to taste avocado - I'll get some guacamole.
If I want to taste fruit - I'll get some fruit juice.
If I want to taste bacon - I'll fry some up.
If I want to taste peanut butter - I don't like peanut butter anymore so forget this one.
I want to taste beer - so I'll get some beer.
IMO, beer with fruit and vegetable flavors are a waste of malt, hops, water & yeast.

When craft brewers make crap like this, it's just plain crap.

Lots of IPAs are insanely fruity so I'm not really sure about your logic here.

I misquoted myself. Fruitty from hops, not from fruit.

I nominate Short's to take on the avocado/guac beer challenge. Age it in tequila barrels too, while they're at it.

I'm guessing it smelled like a really good DIPA, based on how many people refer to that aroma as "cat's piss."

A bit overbroad, but I agree on bacon and peanut butter. A part of the flavor appeal in bacon, avocado and peanuts is that fat is a flavor vehicle, as well as a textural element. All that is lost in the brew, so you get some kind of weird hybrid. This does not mean that all flavors from such ingredients are wasted--walnuts, pecans, hazelnuts and almonds may deliver something that would not be in the brew without them--but, in general, these are not additives I want to see in regular beer (some heavier, more esoteric stouts may benefit from them because the underlying flavor can stand up to alteration). I have less problem with fruit unless it's overwhelmingly sweet or denatured sour, which are two very common problems with fruit beers. Again, these differ from brand to brand--raspberry, cassis/black currant and sour cherry generally stand up to this treatment better than black/sweet cherry, apricots, apples, etc., but there are good versions and bad versions of each. And if you never had fresh sour cherry by itself, you probably don't know what I'm talking about.
