I have a four pack of gaffel 500 ml cans I purchased for 9.99 or 10.99, that’s not too pricey IMO. I know we live close to each other @Urk1127 total wine cherry hill but I did grab the last one I think, unless they restocked it.

I hope so @JackHorzempa id love to try it one day with all the love it seems to get on here.

Have you tried Von Trapp Kolsch yet? If not I strongly recommend that beer to you. Yesterday I picked up another six-pack of this beer; best by date 8/24/21.

    Cheers!

I enjoyed drinking Trumer Pils. Whenever I could find it fresh (which can be a challenge at Total Wine & More) I would buy a six-pack.

    Cheers!

I was just there last night. Was looking for the radeberger zwickel with no luck again. Grabbed Lancaster stuff instead. I bought a 6 of gaffel bottles for $13 and change. But I know the fruh and reisdorf are like $15 a four pack. I just moved to clementon and the beer around here is not fantastic so when I visit up there I grab stuff

I believe I have tried it. Is it a tad hoppy in comparison? Not ipa level but i notice the IBU may be high. But I really enjoy the brewery as a whole. Total wine cherry hill has picked up their Berliner

Not for my palate. The flavors that 'dominate' are bready Pilsner Malt and a very subtle flavor reminiscent of white wine. Not bitter at all (for my palate).

    An excellent Kolsch IMO.

    Cheers!

I’m not sure if this will be much help, but if in the Lansing area go to Vine and Brew in Okemos and or Horrock’s on the west side.

Vine and brew is smaller. The staff is very helpful and most of the imported stuff is reasonable with regard to freshness. Everything can be purchased as a single at the same price per container as a 4-pack or 6-pack. If a sixer were $12 a single would be $2.

Horrocks has a huge selection. The staff is also helpful. The store can be very busy and they have a bar, something like 24-30 taps. Pre-COVID they would even chill and pour any can/bottle for on-site consumption while you shop. Horrocks is also a huge farm market/nursery/candy store/ice cream shop/coffee shop/ plus much more. Most everything is available as a single.

I’m not far from the area. Sound like it might be worth my time to make the drive

Trumer has weird distribution areas, it seems to come and go around here -- so when I see it for $12 a 12-pack, I jump.

Their website has a good beer finder, worth checking out -- it's a German Pils brewed by an Austrian brewery, located in California -- and it's probably in the top 3 Pilsners I've had brewed in the U.S.

Speaking of that, @BigIronH -- I don't think anyone has mentioned Bell's Lager of the Lakes to you. It's really a great German-style Pilsner (and yeah, Bell's calls it Bohemian, but marketing is screwy with beer).

You should get a six -- it's dated well and will get you started with understanding the style.

I’ve actually already had it a few times. I enjoyed it quite well. I guess I’ve actually already had a few beers brewed in German style by domestic brewers. My main interest was getting into imports which I guess was also part of my initial line of questioning; whether or not an import would differ from a domestic beer brewed in the same style.

That was my point with LotL (Trumer, as well), it really hits the style well. OTOH -- there are many other Ami-brewed German styles that really miss the mark.

Glad to hear it. And yeah, that was kind of my concern is that I might get something domestic and dislike it but actually be getting an inaccurate representation of the style.

The benefit of BA, both reviews and forum discussions, is that you can research beer brands. There are lots of true to style German style beers brewed in my area with the benefit that they can be found fresh.

Continue to explore German brewed beers but make sure they are not old and explore American craft brewed German styles and use BA as a source of information here. This is not an either/or choice as regards to where the beers are geographically brewed but old, stale beer is old, stale beer regardless of where it is produced.

    Cheers!

    Yes.

    I took both pills.

I was always really pissed Morpheus never provides that as an option.

Not my absolute favorite, but I love the style. It’s really cool this is your favorite style, it’s refreshing to hear.

I have two locally made Maibocks in my fridge right, one pale one amber.

I hope so too Ron. In fact, if you’re going to be in the area again shoot me a BM. We can meet at Notch in Brighton and have some German and Czech styles from their side pull taps.

Then we’ll sip some St. Bernardus Abt 12 in the parking lot.

    Na zdraví!

I thought the same but it’s been years since I’ve had it. Maybe it’s changed? I also noted that it was cloudy.

If you're in the distro area of Crooked Stave, their Von Pilsner is really delicious.

Here in the Bay Area I see it at pretty much every grocery and liquor store I frequent so Trumer seems to be doing good local business. Sorry, we don't share very well!

Old Nation cans and distributes a few German-style lagers and pilsners. They normally have at least one on draft, if you were to visit. Which if you are coming to the Lansing area, I recommend.
