Just did some inventory and realized that I should be paying much more attention to it than I usually am. My bonehead moves are having 2 full tubes of keg lube (will last me a decade I'm sure) and currently having 22 pounds of hops!!!!

OK so what bonehead inventory moves have you made?

I have a gallon jug of food grade phosphoric acid for water treatment. I use about 1.5ml for a 10 gallon batch. Maybe my great grandchildren will take up brewing and finish it off. This was the smallest quantity that North Country Malt would sell me 4 years ago. It was about the same price as 250ml of dilute acid from LHBS.

edit: My most bonehead inventory move is not having enough propane on hand on brew day. It only happened once but that's more than enough.

I always have two things of propane. Once one runs out, I open the new one and put the old one in my truck to be refilled. It's always refilled long before the second one runs out.

I have a bit more hops than I'd like to have, but it's not beyond the hope of someday using them up.

I have a propane place that will top off two half filled tanks and charge me for a single fill. Good way to keep the pressure maximized and get the most out of a fill!

I own 7 true brew fermenter buckets. Even accounting for scratches and catastrophic failure I probably have a lifetime supply.

I always have too much white labs yeast on hand. Since there are no homebrew stores anywhere in this area I get too optimistic about my brewing schedule and buy more yeast than I can use

I bought 7# this year and thought that was excessive, what varieties did you get and how many # of each??

I don't stock up on anything, since both Midwest and Northern Brewer are within 3 miles of my house. I never pay attention though...so I'd be in a world hurt if I had to plan ahead much.

Things like hops are great to stock up on (cheapest way to do it)

Dont you buy sacks of grain? I dont pick up anything but basemalts, but a sack or two of pils, munich, MO/Halcyon etc will save you quite a few $$ over a year

A sack from Rahr should be basically free in the cities!

I just got the grain-mill. So, yeah, I plan on buying a bag of GP my next trip. I'm in an experimental mood, and just seem to use hops whimsically at the moment, other than magnum. I also wanted to wait to buy bulk hops until I grab a vacuum sealer.

You're probably right though, I should look into bulk purchases.

A cheap jar sealer attachment with a brake bleeder will probably only run you $30.

I ran out of caps once after I had already racked the beer into the bottling bucket back when I first started brewing. This experience spooked me so much that I would buy a bag of caps every time I went to the LHBS.

Fast forward 7 years. Now I almost exclusively keg all my beer and I am sitting on about 1000 caps that will probably never get used.

I got panicky and bought more 2012 hops slightly before the 2013 crop came out because I didn't want to risk getting "shut out" on the harder to find ones. But then "hop preordering" seemed to come out of nowhere this year (plus the crop was big) so I managed to land all of the 2013's I was hoping for.

I've got way more hops than I need.

Nugget, Mosaic, Amarillo, Citra, Centennial, Columbus, Belma, Simcoe, Saaz, Chinook, Cascade, and Willamette.

I have atleast a pound, and no more than 2.5# of each, of various pellet and leaf.

I need to get to brewing.

    Hah!

I just haven't brewed much since the kids were born. I think I'm wanting a brown ale next ( and so is the neighbor ), and then probably a DIPA, and then hopefully our "BA American Stout". After that, some lagers for the spring.

So you can see.. I'm not gonna be using all those american hops so soon.. If I had a friend or someone close by that wanted to come over to do a double brew day, I'd supply the hops.. I have THAT much. I have 2012 that are only open because I vac packed them and that was it.. I do have some Chinook leaf that turned yellow because I forgot it in a box after I moved and it got warm.
