Glad I got mine at the Taphouse on release day. Should have grabbed another, but my tab was already a lot. Can't wait to drink one real soon. On tap was great. Bring on Assassin & Mornin' Delight!!!

Figured the Iowa thread would be a good spot for this. What's the outlook on Madhouse? I don't really know much about them and really hadn't heard of them until their beers just started showing up all over in Grand Forks recently. I tried their coffee stout and wasn't too impressed, but then I had the Hopburst on tap last night and immediately fell in love with it. It's a fantastic IPA and is right there with Furious for me. In fact, on tap I'd be more inclined to go with the Hopburst than the Furious (can't say the same about bottles/cans). We have a few different kinds at the liquor stores here, so I was wondering if there's another one worth trying or what?

Everyone has different tastes. And yours seem definitely different from mine. I skip Madhouse, though I did have a sample of the Templeton aged stout at Brrfest and it wasn't bad.

I'm glad you sold it! Though I'd trade a bottle for a case of 'Sue....

Madhouse is only a few years old, so I think they are still trying to "find themselves" as a brewery and up to this point, I haven't been impressed with any of their beers. Some are downright awful. BUT...as stated, their Hopburst is pretty good and their Imperial Stout aged in Templeton barrels is probably their best I've had so far. I hope to see some better beers come from them in the future, but only time will tell I guess. Until then, I'll rarely reach for their beers when I see them, but as an Iowa brewery, I hope they succeed.

IMO, hopburst is by far their best beer (haven't had the BA stout) but it still isn't as good as other IPA's I can get for much, much less $.

So avoid their other beers for the time being, got it haha. Like I said, the only other one that I've tried was the coffee stout and it definitely wasn't the best, which is why I was very skeptical about trying the Hopburst. Does anyone know from experience if Hopburst lacks in bottles compared to tap?

BrettHead, curious as to what IPA's you can get that are much, much cheaper? A 6 pack of Hopburst here is only $7.99 I believe.

Hmm the distributor here is charging much more for a case in Nebraska then. They run 10.99+ here.

edit: I'll have to look into this

La Folie finally made it to Ames...and on the topic of NB, does anyone have any info on whether Le Terroir will be brewed again this year or when it's released?

I haven't seen Le Terrior since 2011. I think it is retired now. :slight_frown:

Very well could be distributors. I'm not 100% positive on that price, but I am fairly certain that's what its been the last few times I've seen it. It's definitely on the cheap end of craft beer prices here. I got a 22oz glass for $5 last night. Pretty solid price for a beer that's 7.2% abv

Lauren Salazar said Le Terroir this fall (September I think) during a beer seminar I was at last month.

Great news! I was fearing it was a retired beer. One of my favorite LoF brews.

Apparently Twisted Pine is getting distribution in Iowa through Johnson Bros., as of today. Will be shipping Hoppy Boy IPA, Raspberry Wheat, Billy's Chilies, Big Shot Expresso Stout and Ghost Face Killah.

Really only excited to try the Expresso Stout. I have heard nothing but awful things about Ghost Face Killah. Haha...Actually, haven't heard anything amazing about this brewery. More out of state breweries is a great though!

Twisted Pine today. Deschutes by the end of the year. On the other hand, Funkwerks is branching out to Nebraska, and Omaha is a short two hour drive from Ames...amazing Saisons close to home!

Exciting times in the world of craft beer!

You will regret it if you do. You may not be able to get it again, ever.
