Want to do this the day before DLD at the hampton inn in munster. I'll bring some good beers for pours too! I want some general tips and ideas to make my homebrew even better. Cheers!

I'm not so sure this idea is too bueno. I'm imaginging me (no I can't be there I'm in Afghanistan and I have issues with lines) sitting there about to try one of your beers that you are obviously proud of if you want feedback, and you staring at me to read my face as I taste it. And I'd see those sweet cans of Heady Topper or bottles of HF or 5th Dementia and I'd be thinking ...how can I tell him his beers suck. They could be GREAT , fantastic, stellar beers but I would be nervous about giving my opinion in that setting. An angry drunk homebrewer can be scary! Find some BJCP judges on here and send them a couple bottles along with something nice and ask for them to do a full scoring. I did that while in Germany with Hopfenunmalz. It stung a bit at first, but I got over it.

Good thought, but here is the catch: I don't like my beer. There are some definite off flavors and I kind of want to get to the bottom of that. I didn't want to put that in the post for fear of influencing the outcome of the tasting. But yeah, if you think my beer sucks let me know, just let me know why because I do too. It also isn't my recipe so I won't be offended at all if the critique comes from the choice of grain and hops etc. I made a batch I'm not proud of so the least I can do is learn from these 4 gallons of medicore beer.

In that case, get a good BJCP judge and/or an experienced homebrewer (Hopefully someone in this forum will see your post). Lots of Beer Geeks know they don't like a beer, but don't know a lot about diagnosing off flavors and identifying the source of the problem. You can try bringing it to DLD or set up a trade (or just send beer) to an experienced Judge/brewer in this forum.

I think you may be able to get more valuable feedback via the homebrew forum rather than dld. DLD is sensory overload for beer geeks as it is with ridiculous pours going on right and left. I know for myself I have to be somewhat choosy about what I drink and what I pass up due to the overwhelming amounts of good beer around. I think what you are talking about is a good idea, just the wrong place and time. If you run through your process from start to finish, I'm sure you could gain lots of valuable insights without others even tasting it. Otherwise, I think the other suggestions in this thread are great.

That said (and having been to a DLD) he's asking for a tasting the night before. Is the night before a shitshow too?

It'll be my first time going to the hampton before dark lord, but I do hear it is a mini Dark Lord day in itself.

What's DL going to run this year? 3 golden tokens at $25 a crack?

Tickets were 30 this year. DL is supposed to be the same $15 and the BA Variants will be $50.

I can help. Have done it several times here in MPLS with some of the new breweries that have popped up, and I don't have a problem with you waiting for feedback. I'm in the Hampton, hit me up and we can do it.
