That title should grab some attention. Don't burn me at the stake, but I generally don't care much for the style at all. Honestly, I don't like sours or wits all that much either. I can sense my popularity rising. Point is that I am looking for something that I will enjoy in those styles. Just because I don't care for a certain style doesn't mean I am not going to try it. I had a few sours at New Belgium, cause when in Rome... Some people really don't care for lagers, brown ales, etc., but if you completely rule them out, you could be missing out on something you really enjoy. Case and point, Sumpin' Sumpin' is one of my favorite beers. I think even die hard hop heads would agree that it is a fairly hoppy brew. I don't dislike the flavor that the hops contributes, I just like it to be balanced. Not necessarily a 50/50 malt - hop ratio. Just not 90% hops 10% water. I drain poured an All Day IPA after 3 sips ( sorry Founder's, love you guys). Thought it smelled and tasted like bong water (pure speculation of course - I would have no knowledge on this...). So I am looking for some good malt forward/ balanced ideas. I will throw out that I do like 60 Minute, Oberon, Gumballhead, and Arrogant Bastard, and Burning River and Alpha King are ok. Going to revisit some others from the Blue Moon/ Guinness days like Two Hearted and Levitation. Hate to miss out on something from my own back yard like Chillwave, or White Rajah, but out of money in the budget for feeding the s trap. Thanks

Well if your looking for malt forward IPA's your going to be sorely tested and highly disappointed. If you really want a maltier brew I'd suggest buying Big DIPA's and let them age 3-4 months or more, as the hops fade you'll lose the bitterness and the malt will come thru. Maharajah come to mind if you want to age it might be something you like, but any PA is going to be sharply bitter quite the opposite on a big malt back boned brew.

Zombie Dust is probably a good choice (assuming you can reliably find FFF beers); I find the hops in that one to be distinct, but not overwhelming. I also find Goose Island's IPA to be a good representation of an IPA, and that one is easy to get a hold of.

Try and get your hands on Blind Pig or Pliny the Elder, incredibly well balanced IPA/DIPA, the BEST IMO

If you get Oberon, then you should get Two hearted and that was really balanced.

As much as I love the hop bite in a good DIPA, I generally prefer the ones that have a balancing sweetness. Not a huge fan of the caramely malts necessarily, but a strong tropical fruit presence. Sucks is the first example that jumps to mind. Troeg's Perpetual has a somewhat similar, toned down profile. If you like Gumballhead I think you would like those.

Try Bear Republic's XP pale ale. It has really nice tropical flavors with almost no bitterness. As for IPA's, I don't know what to tell you. Maybe some Belgian offerings like Houblon Chouffe dobbelen? A lot of American IPA's aren't really going to come near that 50/50 balance of malt and hops.

The first IPA I didn't hate was Abita Jockamo, followed by Lagunitas IPA, Racer 5, and 60 min. The first one I truly enjoyed was Great Divide Titan.

I disagree. I had Enjoy By and Chillwave (both fresh) and really enjoyed how malty they were, in addition to the hop profile. That said, it is common for IPAs overall to be more bitter than DIPAs (Green Flash West Coast and Palate Wrecker come to mind). XPAs as well. OP should definitely try Chillwave if it's still available.

Founders Red's Rye IPA- Very present (and delicious) caramel malts, and very present amarillo hops.

Have you tried Lagunitas Hop Stoopid? It tastes pretty sweet to me, and I've had people who never step foot outside of Blue Moon/Bud say they really enjoy it. New Belgium's Ranger IPA and Rampant IIPA are two more that have gone over similarly well, but it sounds like you've probably tried them. Dogfish Head 60 and 90 Minute, too.

Deschutes Red Chair NWPA? Easy to find, affordable and I think very well balanced.

I agree with the Red Chair comment above, very good. Also speaking of Deschutes...Fresh Squeezed is my favorite IPA of the moment...it's like drinking a rainbow of Skittles in a bottle...absolutely gorgeous.

Maybe consider red/amber ipas like Odell Runoff Red, Troeg's Nugget Nectar, etc. The 2 mentioned are seasonal and only in select markets, but I'd consider the style.

Deschutes Red Chair was a fantastic recommendation as well.

Well Columbus IPA is a pretty balanced, i.e, malty iPA. Fairly inexpensive too.

I will have to agree with the Deschutes Red Chair suggestion. I love the description of fresh squeezed "it's like drinking a rainbow of Skittles in a bottle". That one has quickly become one of my favorite IPAs.
