Now, don't slam me too hard, as I have found a few of these that I actually like, but this "craze" has gone on for a while now and a lot of these I have tried are just too bitter, or even medicinally strong with hops. I am only saying that there is more to beer than just hops. When do we see a surge in weissbeirs? How about brown ales? Red/Irish ales? I know these brewers can do more with the other ingredients, as they all have some sort of amber/red/brown ale and other lighter pilsners, kolsch beers, lagers, and such... it just seems most places have twice as many IPAs as they do all other kinds of beers combined.

I am currently looking out for good, unspiced Belgian Abbey beers.

Not for a long time. I love IPAs but I do wish they would become just 'beer' and not the holy grail the only thing a new brewery can make because without it they're pretty much screwed.

It will never end, God willing. I just bought 2 cases of IPA earlier today.

If you can't find beers other than IPAs around you that are worth drinking, then you're probably not looking in the right places.

I actually think that the craze is already leveling off - with the biggest percentage growth over the last year in styles like saison and sour (based on anecdotal experience)

Don't like 'em? Don't buy 'em. Plenty of other beers out there for every taste.

I guess it would be nice to see a brewer's list and not see 8 IPAs, 2 browns, 2 lagers and one porter on their menu. Again, there is more than hops to beer!

For a good brown ale, I suggest Avery's "Ellies Brown Ale."

It's not gonna be over. Just when you think you have it figured out . . . someone will do it again a bit different. If you are to taste the difference between the forward biitter and the soft sweet idea of balance, if you can come to accept the idea that at any time in the consumer base there are people who identify with this or that flavor or attribute, then you will see that the IPA has always yet to be invented. It's waiting for the next incarnation and it will be spectacular when you taste it because it was made for you.

I don't know that any brewery here in St. Louis has more than one or two IPAs/DIPA's on tap at any given time. Maybe Schlafly has two once in a while.

It doesn't matter to me. I don't drink IPA's. I drink stouts and porters, if I want to slam something there's always an ice cold shandy in the upstairs fridge (downstairs fridge full of stouts and porters set at 48 degrees). The only way it affects me is that I'll never be able to say I've tried a bunch of this sites top 250 beers, since the majority of them are IPA's and that doesn't bother me. I do wish that some breweries would leave the stouts and porters alone when it comes to "hopping" beers up.

What American brewers are doing with hops these days is delicious and exciting. Drink something else if you don't like it.

These types of answers are straw-man attacks. I never said I didn't like them.

Did you even read my initial post? If you think I don't like some IPAs, you obviously didn't read my post.

    :slight_frown:

I NEVER, EVER said "I want IPAs to go away." Please read more carefully!
