For some of us, it never started...but I've been glad that so many others got to enjoy a beer style I'm not overly fond of, it leaves more of the stuff I want, to be had!

The special ones raise the bar for junk like White Hawk, Mojo, Goose Island IPA and a ton or other average at best IPA's which now are damn near unsellable. It has to be great, it has to be fresh, and preferably dated. Top end IPA's/Dipa's are great, but after that I'd just as soon drink BMC than a mediocre IPA. One reason why Two Hearted is a marvel, it's always fresh, it's a great IPA, it's dated and always under 30 days old here or most anywhere I suppose. HDR is a figment right now, hasn't been available for quite a while. Want an IPA and not really inspired by much on the shelf, don't want to risk buying a 3 month old brew, buy Two Hearted. There's better but not readily available everyday damn near everywhere.

IPA's aren't a craze. They have been selling to well for to long to be a craze. IPA's are just a popular style and that is not going to change any time soon.

I should hope it never ends. Long live the IPA. One of the few good things to come out of Great Britain.

If you think there isn't more now than there ever has been you're wrong. When was this time when it was better??? Oh that's right - never.

You sound like an ass complaining that you can't find ultra fresh beer from foreign countries.

BTW there are several bars in the Boston area that always have British style cask beer flowing.

Some people will always find something to complain about. There are lots of IPAs because the sell well. There is a ton of other stuff because beer in the USA is awesome these days. You are just plain wrong. I've been buying beer for close to 20 years and now is definitely by far the best time in my life and according to all the old folk I know, the beer selection during my beer consuming life is much better than theirs.

    There is.....really? :sunglasses:

There will be a surge in weissbeirs, brown ales, red/irish ales etc etc when people clamor for them and when people buy them. It's not that hard to understand really, brewers make what people want to drink. People want to drink (and rightfully so) IPAs and everything having to do with IPAs. Simple economics.

PS. Keep making more IPAs and I'm happy. Yes I'm a hophead, and damn proud of it.

I'm waiting for the AAL and ALL crazes to end. Maybe then we can see more rauchbiers and saisons in tallboy cans.

The craze you are referring to is a economic business decision, otherwise known as supply and demand. In a theoretical economic system [rare, I know] when demand goes up, supply goes up to meet it. Simple.
And I almost forgot, it can also be a personal decision. A brewer who likes IPAs will brew IPAs.

it will cease when hops become extinct! all kidding aside. i can see a time when hopping any and every beer to the brim slows down some. but i dont think ipas are ever going away. it originated essentially as a form of pale ale and we dont think those are going away anytime soon do we? i actually think we are just getting started. there are many new hybrid hop varietals coming on the market every year.

Didn't read through the thread so not sure if this was brought up but, OP, the brown ale/red ale, porter craze already happened....in the 80's and 90's. Those are the beers that started the craft beer revolution.

I included DIPA's. Did not include pale ales, but I think there were 2 total.

On the 0 of 12, one was a pale ale.

That is comparable to asking when pigs will fly. Perhaps in an alternate dimension.

    IPA Craze?

No one is forcing you to drink them.

    Exactly.

IPA isn't a trend in my opinion.

Barrel/Oak/Wood/Whiskey/Tequila/Merlot/Bourbon aged anything is a trend and needs to stop. If you want to taste another kind of liquor in your beer, then just drink that liquor!

I love IPA's, but I wouldn't mind seeing a lot more good red/amber ales around.

Even accounting for hyperbole and sloganeering, the posters responding with variations of "never" are turning a blind eye to history.
