IPA Day! Any plans?

The reason IPA Day and all other [Insert Beer Style Here] Day holidays fall on a Thursday is simple. For the same reason that bars tend to have fewer happy hours and specials available on Fri/Sat night.

Thursday is close enough to the weekend that you'll avoid the problem of people just saying 'screw it, I'll drink an IPA tomorrow', but it's also on a day that isn't already a primetime drinking day.

I imagine these [Beer Style] Days are industry-created holidays to help drive demand and interest in craft beer.

Well... sure. But *most* college students are less likely to be in the scene to which these [beer style] days are geared, and for most working stiffs that have to put in a 9-5 shift on Friday, Thursday is still a secondary drinking day compared to Fri/Sat.

And even in college, I'd say Thursday is secondary, even though it is probably more of a drinking day in that subset than in the general population.

 

Going to Avenue Pub where they'll have:

Stone Coconut IPA
Abita Jockamo dry hopped with cascade and Nelson Sauvin cask
Hop jacked New Belgium Ranger IPA with special guest Cody Reife ( brewer from New Belgium)
NOLA brewing Rum barrel aged IPA

...and all the other awesome shit Ave Pub carries regularly. Can't wait

Gonna head to an IPA tap takeover that afternoon and then have a Heady to put an exclamation point on the day!

 

Now if there is a "right" way to celebrate IPA day, that might just be it!

This is what I was going to say. Thirsty Thursdays. Thursdays are very much a prime drinking nights (not so much days) because a majority of college kids have no classes or very late classes on Fridays if at all possible. Or ya know they skip their Friday class if they have one and are hungover. Of course, the majority of college kids aren't all drinking craft beers, but still.

Oh and I guess for IPA day I'll be having a few Four Peaks Hop Knots, only the best AZ IPA.

I thought the same thing about Stone collab. Green Tea IPA until I tried it. Stone is just at the point where they really couldn't even put out a bad IPA if they tried (but that might be just my opinion or something).

 

I'm planning on having:

Snake River Pakos IPA
Odell Myrcenary DIPA
Freedom's Edge Blood Orange DIPA

 

Too bad it's only currently on tap. I had it at Pizza Port in Carlsbad. Damn fine IPA. Drink another for me! Cheers!

Already in process of liquidating all of my IPAs.
Aug 1st will become my last day of brew for a year... well, a day shy of one year since I'll crack on the next IPA day in 2014. I figure it's a tough enough challenge to attempt in name of my daughter's genetic disorder (of which the annual conference also starts Aug 1).

 

My local brewery, Baxter, is having specials on IPAs and cornhole set up.

 

Would the correct greeting be "Have a Hoppy Day" ?

 

Is Aug 2 DIPA Day? IF NOT, I doth declareth it so...

So Aug 1 Sea Hag and maybe a homebrew or Lagunitas IPA
Aug 2 GandhiBot if lucky, if not Devil Dancer or Molotov Cocktail or RuinTen, we'll see

 

this thread crossed my mind today while at my local beer store. so i picked up a six of the 'tried and true' flower power, several bottles of ruin ten and took a shot in the dark on stone's cali-belgique, haven't tried it yet.

 

haha thats my birthday, so i'll definitely be celebrating your self declared ipa day with you then.

 

My calendar says I'm picking up my bottles of Mango Magnifico from Founders. So, I'll probably be trying that.
