It’s probably been discussed already but I don’t think ecipa is even a descriptor at this time.
    * Wcipa is known for emphasis on bitter, pine, citrus flavors. Also usually clear appearance.
    * Neipa are more focused on tropical hop flavors. Also tend to be hazy and juicy/pillowy bodied.
I’ve had plenty of wcipa’s that aren’t filtered. They may have a slightly hazy appearance, but that doesn’t mean they’re New England style. SARA is a prime example.
    Hope this helps.

Now that I’m thinking about it I’ve been meaning to bring this up. @Todd
When adding beers to the database for ipa’s its generally...
    1. American ipa
    2. Imperial ipa
    3. New England ipa.
There are a lot of double or triple ipa’s out there. Also a lot of double or triple neipa’s out there.
There’s a lot of beers I add that are imperial neipa’s that I have to either categorize as neipa’s or imperial ipa’s.
I think the IPL category was a good addition, but an imperial neipa would be just as useful.
If you don’t want to distinguish between triple and double ipa’s I get it.

There's no Triple IPA...period! Just a marketing gimmick. However, with so many NEIPAs being over 8%, having an Imperial NEIPA category would be great.

It is indeed true that folks on BA do not utilize the terminology of East Coast IPA today as often as they did 10ish years ago but there are indeed ECIPA beers available to drink: Victory Hop Devil, Dogfish Head 60 Minute IPA,...

    Cheers!

Agreed and it is being discussed within the Style Council - in the meantime, please put Imperial NEIPAs in the NEIPA category as we will be able to automatically move them to the Imperial NEIPA category if/when created by using the ABV rather than trying to parse notes of names for info).

It’s really interesting to see how the scene has revolved over the years, especially after stepping away a couple times.

IPA stopped being a defined "style" long ago. Now it is just a flavor descriptor with a modifier that indicates bitterness NE= Low bitterness, WC= higher bitterness. I've seen hazy versions of both.

Though it hasn't happened in years*, when the scene started to revolve I stopped drinking for the evening.

*Now, I just take a nap long before that point - whether I want to or not.

Is that problematic for you? I created this one out of frustration with the influx of IPA variants/gimmicks being marketed locally and the fact that my opinion of this particular one was an incorrect assessment of what they’re advertising. At the end of the day, I don’t care that much. I don’t buy from that brewery and I rarely drink IPA’s. It may sound cliché but my OCD got the best of me on this one and I couldn’t just let it go. And yes, I’ve been formally diagnosed and dislike when people toss out the “OCD” as a catch-all excuse for whatever or use it as an adjective.

It's the internet... I don't get too terribly bothered by things. I should have been nicer about it. Sorry.

These sorts of IPA classification discussions come up fairly often on these forums, but not typically at the same time.

    I agree.
