Why not? Be a beer scientist.

I use my Troegs Dreamweaver tulip for any "special" beers, beyond that I use a regular pint glass, Dream Machine glass or Guinness glass.

The Spiegelau is a terrible glass that should have never been created.

Snifter for all my beers! Every last one of 'em! SNIFTER!

Honestly, the main reason I bother with a glass is for review purposes. You have to pour it to evaluate head characteristics, clarity/color and it also helps for evaluating the aromatics. In reality, pouring makes a beer decarbonate more quickly.

I've done a 'vertical' of sorts where I sampled the same beer out of three vessels and found the results to be very dramatic:
Beer = Sunday Morning Stout (Weyerbacher)
    Glass 1 = 8oz Nonic Pint
    Glass 2 = 6oz Snifter
    Glass 3 = 8oz Pint

Without a doubt, the beer from the snifter was more intense...not only in aroma but flavor as well. Since the olfactory senses are piqued with the snifter, the palate response will in turn, also be intensified...the other two were very muted.

That said, I prefer glasses that largely thin-walled (the thinner the glass, the less heat transfer) and taper inward with minimal flair...just enough to aid in comfort of the lips against the glass and aiding the flow of beer into the mouth.

    My favorite glasses:
    1 - Teku
    2 - Dogfish 'Specialty' glass
    3 - Spiegelau IPA glass
    4 - Spiegelau tulip glass
    5 - Rastal tulip glass

I have an ipa speiglau glass and it's probably my least favorite glass for ipas. Out of all beers, ipas are the least that benefit from warming up. Usually they ate best at colder temps. My speiglau, (and also every one ive seen ) is of a very thin glass that conducts heat much more quickly than a regular pint glass. The bottom handle of the speiglau is for your whole hand to grasp and hold while drinking. giving the entire palm's surface area less time to heat up your beer. As opposed to a pint that usually gets raised to your mouth with just the ends of a few of your fingers when grasping it. It's just gimmicks son. Ipa glass is something that looks cool, but not as functional as most think.

I have a couple of glasses I like to use, but as long as the beers good the glass is perfect.

Most on this site probably have a decent amount of glassware so rotate your way through them regardless of what beer you might be drinking or want to drink.

Tulip or snifter for everything. Can't beat the way they capture the aroma!

Sure? Why not? It is ok to break the "rules" once in a while. And especially if it adds to the splendor of your drinking experience. I was served a local wheat beer 2 days ago (I am in Maryland on a getaway) with an orange wedge. I took a few sips without the orange and then threw it in glass. A citrus wedge isn't exactly recommended for wheat beers on this site. But what the hell?
The only glassware requirement I stick to is insisting that the glass be clean and notcontaminated (no sticky bubbles on the sides). I also bought a Spiegelau IPA glass recently from DFH. I am going to give it a go with a porter now. Cheers!

double ipa's go in a large mouth glass, great citrus aromas to let out, otherwise my mood plays in my glass or no glass choice

I drink most everything out of my Palm glass; it seems to do the best job of channeling the scent, which is the greatest component of taste, of the beer to my nose. If I am not mistaken, most of the "right glassware" lore is based on the now disproven "tongue map".

I like to drink IPA's out of a New Belgium tulip glass. The IPA is so dependent on aroma and tulips are the best for that.
