I highly recommend the daily What Beer Are You Drinking Now? (WBAYDN#[xxxx]) thread, & the weekly New Beer Sunday (NBS#[xxxx]) thread. The latter is specifically for telling each other about new-to-me beers.

A bunch of people have already provided some good suggestions on some less bitter IPAs - one that comes to mind for me is Dogfishhead 60 minute IPA. That said, if you're not into the bitterness, have you considered trying some Pale Ales? There's quite a few good ones out there: Stone Ripper, Sierra Nevada Pale ale (probably one of my favorite pale ales), etc.

Just popped open the New England Style IPA from Epic Brewing. I really like it. The abv is 7.3 and the ibu is 70. I'm surprised it wasnt too bitter. So far from the 5 I've tried, I like this one the best. In a weird way it reminded me of Blue Moon.

Question- it wasn't super cold, I'd forgotten to put the can back in the fridge last night and it was only in for 2 hrs today. Does the actual beer temp do anything for the taste? Should I be drinking these ice cold or just a little bit cold? Sorry for such a stupid question, just wanting to know how y'all enjoy yours..

It varies, but generally, cool(45-55F?) ,not cold. Many will not taste right if too cold. I've encountered plenty where the bitterness was more apparent when colder. Also, your taste buds don't work as well. If it tastes bad when you can actually taste it, it probably is bad.

They truly are an endless variety of enjoyment.

Love your enthusiasm, man, there are plenty of folks on this site who love nothing better than to dampen the enthusiasm of others, especially IPA lovers. Don't let them, keep happy and enjoy the wide world of hoppy beers now open ahead of you. Cheers!

If it hasn't already been suggested I had a can of the new Sierra Nevada Fresh Hop IPA the other night and it is g-oooo-od!

It's low bitterness as well. Quite hazy, but I don't think it's intended as a New England IPA style (though it's getting hard to tell these days - everyone is making them).

Yes, I would also recommend getting your hands on some NEIPA style beers if you haven't already - they're designed to have low bitterness. How can you tell if it is a NEIPA? Well many of them say it on the label, but feel free to ask here for suggestions - there's a great and helpful community of craft beer lovers on BA.

Hey, @TongoRad's recent knighting ceremony during which he earned the name "Sir Tongo" has inspired me. :stuck_out_tongue:

Someone probably already said something similar, but, even though it does have some bitterness to it, try Bell's Two Hearted Ale. If you learn to like Two Hearted Ale, you've successfully made it into the IPA world.

Everyone, thank you for the suggestions!

I've tried many IPAs in the last month, some I thought were just okay, some I thought were good and a few I found delicious, or horrible, lol... I've decided that IBUs don't matter that much, the flavor combinations are very individual and the whole thing is incredibly subjective. I found a favorite and a least favorite that I took a few sips of and had to pour out.

Lagunitas Little Sumpin for the win
Voodoo Ranger for a total loss...:stuck_out_tongue:

It's been so much fun trying and I'll continue to do do. I have to. I tried a few of the beers I used to like and didn't like any. I'm guessing my taste buds have completely changed. Thanks BA for inspiring me to branch out!

I'm unable to edit my post, Little Sumpin might not even be an ipa. I like their regular stuff too but this one is my favorite so far.

Glad you were able to try that Epic praise the haze NEIPA. That’s a consistent and very delicious beer. Also see if you can come across Dogfish Head Liquid Truth Serum. Also, not sure if you have or haven’t, but I know Dallas has one or maybe even multiple locations of Flying Saucer. They have tons of beers and categorize their menu by types. And if it isn’t listed download untapped to track what you’ve tried or to simply just look up the beers and see things about them such as their IBUs (bitterness). Much continued good luck!

Lagunitas is a great national IPA to try. Not that bitter but a great starter beer for sure.

No, it is not. It's a pale wheat ale.

Welcome to BeerAdvocate. Don’t take this the wrong way, but I’m not sure why you’d resurrect a thread to directly respond to a year old question from a user who hasn’t logged in in a year. Please stick around though. :beers:
