For those of you somewhat more seasoned BA's...you'll remember my post 2 years ago of mixing 1/2 parts Hopslam and Pliny the Elder, calling it Honey Blunt...yum. But at the end of the day, I concluded that each are better on their own.

Well my friends, tonight was a different story.

I was looking forward to something hoppy....love Torpedo and love Union Jack.

    Dilemma:

Only had one left of both 6-packs. And as much as I was craving that Tropical Fruit Torpedo...I wasn't for some reason in the mood for that classic House Sierra Nevada Finish. So 1/2 parts Union Jack tonight & 1/2 parts Torpedo.

    Results:

    Argueably best single IPA EVAAARR!!!!!!!!!

    Thoughts? Similiar experiences?

    Chime in BA's! GO.

Double trouble and hopslam. Sum is greater than the parts.

I mixed a Torpedo with a Widmer, once, by accident. It was not half bad. Not as good as an SN, but a little better than a strict Widmer. Crossdressing beer is not as lousy as it's cracked up to be.

Drinking a Torpedo right now after a killer day of work. Not the freshest one I've had, wish I had a Union Jack to mix with it, the bitterness is a bit unbalancedly in the forefront.

The problem with Sierra Nevada is that most grocers will only sell their dated products first and keep the fresh stuff in the back, making everything old by the time you buy it.

But sometimes.... when new shipments come in, they make giant stacks of Torpedo/ Pale Ale cases on the side isle. And that, my friends, is the first step into heaven.

I'm open to whatever, I've mixed beers, liquor and beer, I'd dip a turkey sandwich in a Scotch Ale if i'd think it make it taste better.

Being that Laguntas IPA's were the only ones I could find fresh around here for a couple of weeks, I went through their lineup and started mixing them. A blend of Daytime (for hop aroma/flavor), IPA (for bitterness and body), and Little Sumpin (for creaminess) was better than any of them alone.

For me Union Jack is the more tropical of the two. Torpedo and is more piney imo, but nevertheless I bet it tasted delicious

    RE: Mixing Beers

My roommate from college and I went to Dublin during our Spring Break in college... first thing he does is walk into a pub and order a Black and Tan (Guinness and Harp). I swear to god, I'm not kidding, it was just like in the movies... everyone went really quiet all around and the bartender, in the most Irish voice ever, slammed his hand on the bar and said "This is Iyerlind, We don't do that heeer, sawn". If there was a band, I'm sure they would've stopped playing and stared angerly. He ordered a Guinness and everything went back to normal.

So yeah, I don't mix for fear of Irish bartenders with pointy sticks and raspy accents.
