sadly you hit the peak with Sucks if you like WC IPAs. won't find anything that touches that for price/availability.

Maximus from Lagunitas and Lagunitas IPA are great too, though.

And I never I understand why people feel the need to tell others why their decision making process is superior. It's a beer website, he's excited about a style and he came here to share excitement/get suggestions. No need to dump on the guy.

To the OP: If you're exploring the style try a RYE IPA. Sierra Nevada should have Ruthless Rye on the shelf wherever you are. It's an awesome brew and an interesting variation of the style.

Dude I'm sorry, but the process I suggested is far superior to going and asking people all over the country what he should buy next. These threads are a dime a dozen. Half the responses are things that probably aren't even available to him. If OP just wants a list of highly regarded beers he can go here: http://beeradvocate.com/beer/style and click the style he wants.

I held an introductory tasting at my house for some friends a few weeks back, and rather than creating a thread asking for help (which has been done probably hundreds of times already on here), I used the resources that were already available, and made decisions based on what was available. It's not that difficult.

It sounds like I'm whining about what is simply just a post on the internet, but I mean, come on. This website is great and has numerous resources at our disposal. Let's use them. Let's also use the forums to discuss things that you can't get simple answers to elsewhere. But that's just my opinion...

I only have access to number 24, 26, 28, 30, 33, 36, 39, and 46. Out of those only 3 are available year round (double jack, ruination and lagunitas sucks). 2 are seasonals (racer x and wet maximus). 2 are rotating (enjoy by and on the wings (and that is only in DC)). 1 is a one-off that I fucking missed because I just got into beer right after it disappeared (ruination 10th). I love ruination and I have a double jack/lagunitas sucks waiting in the fridge to try for the first time each. None of the others are distributed in MD, except for rare, special events. So, I think a better question is what IPAs should I get that are available to try in my region. I mean even in MD there aren't even many great things that you can get to trade with (to my knowledge).

Oh, I absolutely forgot to mention. Check the bottling dates on your IPAs. I personally don't by anything over 2-3 months old. Preferably much, much fresher than that.

You mentioned Dbl Jack, Ruination, Maximus and Sucks.
Nugget Nectar is still in the area.
    Dales & Deviant Dales
    Dogfish
    Founders Centennial
Green Flash West Coast & Imperial IPA
Ballast Point Sculpin & Big Eye
    Great Divide Hercules
Victory Hop Devil & Hop Wallop
    Anything from Lagunitas

If they're a dime a dozen, just move along. You knew what the content of this thread would be when you read the subject. OP has been here for 3 months and for all we know he doesn't know about all the resources available to him here - maybe he doesn't realize it's more than a discussion forum. It's perfectly understandable that a year and a half into your BA existence that you've seen it all and know it all, but he hasn't. So cut him some slack.

While the content of your first post (and even your second) was helpful, no need to wrap it in all the sarcasm. Treat the guy like a guest in your home. Welcome him to the site, show him around, let him know where the top IPA list is, give him the seekabrew link, suggest a beginner IPA tasting and tell him in the end not to worry about obtaining the "best IPA's" because it's more about the adventure and it's just beer.

But I also understand that approach probably wouldn't have earned you 21 likes (and I'm sure more to come).

Evolution Lot 3 and Lot 6. Both are amazing when fresh and in my experience trade very well $4$ with other hoppy beers.

Forgot about Lot 6. Great. That reminds me to drink a Lot 6 tonight. Hopefully that becomes a year round release.
You're right - Founders is just DC. I drop into the city to find Founders/Bells.
Just trying to name ones that you'll regularly find. And even old, some of those hold up.

Also forgot about Loose Cannon. Everywhere and a good, local beer.

Yeah, I was just pointing out the relative availability/scarcity of highly rated ipa's by area. I am slowly working through our selection. I have had Sculpin, Palate Wrecker, Nugget Nectar and all of DFH except a few. I have a list I am working through and always ask the store people for help. Yeah, there is no Founders that I have seen in MD.

You mean on here? That list thing was quick to do. I had the 2xIPA on Tuesday and it was quite good, right along with my friend's Ruination I gave her as part of a mix six for her birthday. I wasn't a big fan of the Evo Lot 6, but I'm not sure of the date. I don't have the bottle anymore. I am actually headed to DFH, Burley Oak, and Evo on the 29th.

If there isn't a brewery making a decent IPA within driving distance you need to move. Freshness really is a matter of paramount importance in the IPA game.

You're right. I pick it up in DC.
I've tracked down a few of those on the list that aren't in the area and you soon realize it's great if they are around. You might as well try them. But, there are plenty of really good IPAs that you can get your hands on that there is plenty to keep busy with without having to kill yourself to find.

Yeah, I don't have much money for beer this early. So, I mainly stick to mix-six's or the occasional collab./limited release. So, where in MD are you JandJMD? I'm right next to Baltimore. Mainly go to Honeygo Fine Wines and Max's or Mahaffey's for bars.

    In Montgomery County.
Most of the Lagunitas stuff is reasonably priced. Same with Loose Cannon. And if you like Sculpin, Big Eye is just as good and it's like $5 less per six pack.
Mixing 6 packs is good to try a lot, but you'll pay more if you're trying to keep it tight on budget.

True, but I like the variety. If I don't like something, I hate being stuck with 3 or 5 more of it. I mean $15 is about the price of a good to great four or six pack, and that is usually what I pay for a mix six at Honeygo. I don't mind the extra few bucks to try more and not possibly be stuck with something I didn't like.

I wanted to toss my support behind a couple that have already been mentioned that should also be readily available in Missouri (depending on what part of Missouri, I suppose). I too loved TIPA and once upon of time wouldn't have considered myself much of an IPA lover, but now it's one of my most consumed styles of beer.

Founders Centennial is outstanding--the nose on this beer is one of the most olfactory filling aromas I've smelled on a beer. Just a great beer.

Green Flash West Coast IPA might be my favorite IPA on the market right now. It's just an wonderful example of the style.

Sierra Nevada Ruthless Rye IPA is a good one as well, but it's going to be a little different than TIPA or Sucks. Still worth a try, especially if you like the flavors that rye adds to a beer.

Lastly, someone mentioned Sixpoint Resin--it's going to be harder to get (I had to buy some from Halftime Beverage online), and it's going to have a bit more kick than these others because it's technically a Double/Imperial IPA. That said, if you like TIPA, I think you'll like Resin, even with the extra kick.

I am in St. Louis so I am assuming I have access to the same beers as you. I missed my chance to get Sixpoint Resin because I was in Indy last month and saw it at the store. I did pick up Alpha King, and a couple offerings from The Bruery though.

Replies like this are the reason why I made the post in the first place - to get input from people who have had one or both of the IPAs that I enjoyed. There is only so much you can get from looking at list of the Top 50 IPAs, especially when I do not have access to most of them.
