I am drinking an Avery IPA right now. For some reason, it tastes overly tartly bitter, almost sour compared to when I last had it (about a year ago). Very grass like also. It has none of the amazing tropical fruit flavors I remember.

I bought a six pack of Great Divide Titan IPA a few weeks back and it tasted almost the exact same way.

Both beers were around 2 months old, so it wasnt like they were old and oxidized. The Avery is in a can, so its not light struck either!

Both of these beers tasted amazing to me the last time I had them, but this time around, both have been meh.

Perhaps I am having some sort of palate shift? Am I crazy? I have several other IPA's I am going to try to see if they all taste wierd to me now. I am actually kind of worried about this, as IPA's are my favorite style of beer!!!!!

IPA is everyone's favorite style at some point, but then you'll find yourself liking other things more...just the way it works. To be honest, sounds like your palate is a bit off, which happens now and again, has happened to me a few times. Drink something else in between tasting them (different styles) or cleanse your palate and give another one a try...

2 months isn't that long (despite what many people on the forums say) but isn't exactly fresh. Regardless, that couple of months wouldn't cause a "sour" flavor...

ipa overload. I ve been through a stage where they all taste the same and lose their flavor distinctions. I ve learned to do what pixieskid suggested and drink other styles once in a while. Seems to help.

I used to love IPA's. Now they all taste like onions. I've recently passed on Boneyard IPA's for a Kolsch I hadn't previously had at a bar. I'll keep coming back to the hops on occasion to see if things have changed but for the moment they're just not my thing.

then you need to drink different ipas or you need to change your name!

Could also just be your mood or point of being. Sometimes you try something feeling good and it's awesome and then you come back to that same thing with great expectations and they leave you hanging. Regardless it shouldn't shift your interest in ipas. Lots of good ones out there.

Maybe something you ate shifted the taste?

No joke. If I could I'd totally go with "yeastbreath" at this point. It hasn't even been a short time either we're talking about months. On a brighter note I'm really enjoying smaller more balanced beers and am currently on a huge Belgian kick in the same time frame. Neither of those used to be in in my wheelhouse.

Been through this many times and IPAs are my favorite style. I shift to porters/stouts as soon as I notice my palate is not picking up any flavor except cat piss. I totally get away from them for a week or so...Works every time.

Two months old is enough time to lose some of the tropical and most of the dry hop. Bittering hop fades slowest. Is it possible your first tries were much fresher than two months old?

Failing this, your other two considerations in the OP seem likely.

I would agree with this statement. Sometimes another month sitting, can or bottle, make a huge difference in the flavor.
Avery is a top notch IPA in my book and one of my favorites!

I don't think that the other times I got either Titan or Avery's IPA they were even that fresh, probably even older.

Maybe both breweries switched one of the hops used to a hop that really doesn't taste good to me? I just remembered that I had this: http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/28/53899/?ba=tronester about a month ago, and its date code placed it at 4 months old. Yet I found it to taste wonderful! Strange things indeed!
