I'd like to do an IPA tasting party with some friends. I'd like to have 10-15 beers to taste. Considering these beers are very hoppy, how do you cleanse the tongue? I'm afraid after the 4th or 5th beer the beers will all start to taste the same.
Does anyone know what helps to cleanse the mouth? A coffee bean, or a type of beverage?
    Cheers!

Crackers work well with a small water chaser

Unsalted crackers and water should be good. Maybe sorbet.

So what IPAs are you planning on serving?

IPA's are bitter, right? So you will want something to take the bitterness out, you may want to consider small glasses of milk and crackers or a very neutral cheese with some plain crackers or bread (get fresh bread...let's bouge this party up!). I like the idea of sorbet as well... but what you basically want to do is neutralize the bitterness of the beer and cleanse, I think a shot of milk and some crackers would do the trick, rinse with water and you're good to go!

15 seems likes a lot, might suffer from palate fatigue. 10 max might be better.

depends on how big the pours are. if its 2 people splitting 15 maybe, but if it's 8 that's not so bad

Last night 6 of us tasted 19 beers, twice. The pours were decent and we split the tasting up with dinner inbetween. The party should be around 6-8 people so I think that amount of beer will work.

    nice!

I agree with these. You want something sharp that will cut the bitterness and give you a break from hops. something like these things can compete with the hops and Crackers are good to follow up those so you don't have pickle breath while moving to the next beer.

I also think you have too many beers. I would look for a range of variations within the style and get some mild to some really bitter ipa's, different abv's too, and do them slowly with the unsalted cracker between. You will start to feel like everything tastes the same and then like "I just don't want any more." That's palate fatigue and the bitterness will do that to you even if it's not so strong but just applied over time.

I think it sounds like a great party!

Room temperature or slightly warm water rinse helps if you want to keep it simple.
