Believe it it or not . . . Sam Adams Hopology 6 pack. 2 Whitewater ipa's, 2 48° Latitude ipa's and 2 Noble Pils. I remember it well, I had the house to myself just doin' some house work and jammin' some Phish. Opened the fridge and tried one of each and I was hooked ! I would probably never buy those again but they got me over the hump for sure.

SN Pale Ale and Torpedo over 6 years ago. I still enjoy them on a regular basis to this day.

I don't think I'll ever really get over my first hump.

Same story. I was addicted to Unibroue and a bartender gave me some Hopslam on tap, and I never knew beer could taste like that. The world caught up to Hopslam, but that was a special beer back in about 08.

Funny enough, it wasn't an IPA. It was "Mo" from Maine Beer Co. Technically a pale ale but more of an IPA then most companies put out. Literally changed everything i thought about hoppy beers, has cost me a lot of money in the years that have followed.

Anchor Liberty Ale found its way into my fridge because I had good memories of their Steam beer. I just assumed I wouldn't like bitter as a quality in beer, but the Liberty has just a bit, enough to tease the tongue. I got to feeling adventurous one night and picked up some Two Hearted. Like someone else pointed out, it was the first time I smelled a beer. I've gone all hops since that time, and I'm quite content.
    Cheers!

The second Hop Devil IPA. After that I was a huge fan of IPA's and like to try as many as I can.

My gateway to IPAs was also not an IPA but Arrogant Bastard. Had been a malt fan--stouts, doppelbocks, etc. Tried this at a local English-style pub and was blown away. Yes, it was way more than my palate was accustomed to, but it so got me hooked on the drug that is hops.

I cut my teeth on Harpoon IPA, Smuttynose Finest Kind, Ipswich IPA, Sierra Nevada Bombers and a few of the magic hat IPAs from all the mixpacks I used to buy in college. Took awhile for them to grow on me.

Thought they tasted like pine cones at first. I still kinda think that now except I like it.

Five years ago is the peak to tail end of the IPA boom that swept the industry and inspired the craft growth that is recognized today. IPAs were very well rounded, then. Everybody should have been drinking them and there should have been no hump, but I can understand the shock as Belgian styles were the overwhelming crazy just prior to IPAs. It's a shock to go from sweet and botanical to dry and citrus heavy or earthy.
I didn't really have a hump beer. There were just things that I'd try, take note of, and move forward. I had Titan fresh on draft back then and swore I'd always order it should it present itself, again. I've followed through on that. Hopsickle was another "wow."
