OP doesn't mention any other beers -- time to add some "control" to the experiment? :grinning:

Later post by OP does mention other beers. Controls already mentioned. :grinning:

Saw that. Based on my own research, I'm not buying the results -- at all. :grinning:

Well, since you don't have the same physiology, or psychology, and differ in a lot of other ways from the OP....

But go ahead and believe what you choose to.

It's the hops, and that's the end of the story on it. To get old worlde on ye, look up dream pillows.
Best way to avoid it is by not drinking massively hopped up beer. I'm guessing your susceptibility to it is more to do with late addition hops which are utilizing the volatiles, and the synergies of these volatiles create your sleepyhead.
If you still need your faceblasting IPA's, try to find some with coffee in them. Or, drink up and just enjoy the ride and learn to live with the first shift sleep patterns they induce.

Nice thread. I was having the same problem. I dont drink them all the time but with certain beers I did notice I went right to sleep after drinking them. Didnt occur to me it was just IPA's but I dont know for sure.

Yep, it's known for a fact... (Unless you've been violating site policy and have two identities. ) only real question is how much difference it makes, and it can actually make a lot of difference.

As for the other, quick, wrong reading of ambiguous emoticon, which can also mean frustration and or derision

    Means: WTF dude?* to me.

(*Actual site definition says: "Er... what?" Which is right in line with WTF?)

I can't wait for the Stone / Celestial Seasonings collab, Sleepytime IPA.

(OP needs to start buying coffee IPAs)

Big Hoppy IPAs (sometimes Imperial Stouts if they are also hoppy..) at night generally make me sleepy much faster than a normal Pilsner,Porter,Etc.

I am a terrible sleeper. I hear everything, feel my every move, always tired because of this. BINGO ! If hops are a powerful sedative I'm buying a waterbed and filling it with some good beer !!!

FYI, here's a link to suppliment yours. (And in some slang usages of the words one could say this was also done with "quail" so it may be possible to determine what a moderate dose for a "bird" might be. :-))

Locking this one down as the OP's question (not a new one) has been answered.

Hops are a sedative and alcohol is a depressant.
