Can folks weigh in on the difference of IPL vs APL is it simply that an IPL (India Pale Lager) is a double APL(American Pale Lager)?
I have to assume that any reference to India is now intended to mean that it is hopped to hell and back, destroying the base style. I do not think it means 'double' anything
At present BA doesn't have a designation for IPL so the ones that are branded as such get tossed in with APLs. If you read the description for APL though, it's pretty obvious that an IPL is very often a different beast altogether.
No expert here but I'm pretty sure IPL's are essentially brewed like IPAs (hopped to high heaven) but then use lager yeast and are lagered. An american pale lager is just as the name suggests, a pale lager of American origin as opposed to being in the image of a European example.
Hah, indeed. Just because it's hoppy doesn't mean that it's double, OP. Also, the India moniker needs to die in a fire. Call it an American Hoppy Lager FFS
I prefer the IPL because of the more hops dealio. Nothing wrong with the APL, just my preference............
The I implies that it will be significantly more hopped than the A variant. I referring to India and hence heavily hopped. Note that I used the word "implies"
