I'm interested in trying some of Cantillon's unblended lambics and wondering what these might be going for. Would a combination of high quality shelf beers be enough to get one or are we talking strictly limited/rare bottles in exchange? I know Iris is a bit tougher, but what about Broucsella? What about stuff in the range of say, BA Boris, Imperial Biscotti Break, Tilquin Gueuze, Cascade kriek, Monomoy Kriek, Anchorage stuff, etc? Am I way off here?
I would honestly recommend putting together an order here. Loons in about a week sitting on your doorstep. http://www.bieresgourmet.be/catalog..._id=14&zenid=2aa1887e33d43a26dc6cf102df769825
Yeah I have thought about it, don't know if I want to spend the bread required...at the moment. It'll happen eventually. I am on their mailing list already!
You can definitely land Cantillons for shelf stuff, but it typically needs to be of the more limited nature. i.e. a Bourbon County variant, or a Founders limited release, etc. Your examples are too easily available to most people who have access to Cantillon. Also, Bruocsella definitely trades easier than Iris.
Just wait, with how things are over there, hopefully the Euro will be on par with the dollar or maybe less. The current exchange rate is 1.25 when it was around 1.32 a few weeks ago.
Yeah, except they're not stupid. I'd imagine the large bulk of their web business comes from Americans, so prices will likely just rise as the Euro goes down in value. For example, Vigneronne is now 13.27 Euros. I paid 9.97 Euros just a few months ago. You might save a few bucks if it ever gets down to 1:1, but I don't think it will be substantial. Etre seems to do a really good job of inventory management - i.e. they price things so that they're never completely sold out of Cantillon but they're still selling quite a bit...
