A friend gave me a package of this yeast and I really like it for stouts. I don’t like the price so, does anyone know if there is a dry yeast close to it?
I've been using the |Irish Ale yeast with my stouts for a while now, they seem to come out best with that variety. |Have you tried saving yeast for next batch? either washing or freezing. depending on how often you brew using it, either one might work. At the very least you can get a few batches out of one yeast purchase.
Thanks for the reply’s. yes, I save yeast, sadly Mrs Gorm says there are enough bottles of yeast in the fridge, lol. I’ll try the lager yeast, and perhaps save a few less yeast bottles, thus, keeping a Irish ale or 4 bottles.
How many strains do you have? Is your fridge REALLY full? Believe it or not after more than a year with this fridge, I discovered a lower-lower-lower door shelf. It's just big enough for some small yeast stores.I was so relieved knowing I could announce to my significant other that they were hidden away in the fridge better than ever. Would you check your possibilities? Could you install an extra hidden shelf (think sourcing another actual fridge shelf)? May it be possible, and good luck! ETA: I've used the Irish ale wy1084 in stouts and have enjoyed it's simple, smooth and clean profile -- at least that's what I get. A good house strain, if you will. I used it in an light brown ale and it was so good I brewed it again.
I use 4 strains usually have 2 bottles per strain. That way, if I get sudden request beers I can brew on. lower door on m fridge is good for several bottles, but for me, anywhere in the fridge is fine.
