I'm going to be in Irving (closer to the airport) next month for work for a few days. I'll likely get to Dallas at least one night.

I'm looking for some brewery recommendations in that specific area.

Also, I'll be checking a bag, so if there are any recommendations for beer distributed only in Texas or the surround area, I'd love those recommendations as well. Thanks!

Turning Point is in Bedford, just a little ways on 183 west of the airport. They're one of the most hyped local breweries for NEIPAs.

Celestial Beerworks is in Dallas also a very hyped brewery for NEIPAs.

If you want recommendations on anything else I may need some more information on what you like or want to try.

There's not much directly in Irving, it's a bit of a dead zone.

There are a lot of breweries right along the I35 corridor near Love Field airport. I personally think Peticolas is still the best overall brewery in DFW.

Thanks. I skew toward IPAs (of all variety). I'm still partial to West Coast/pine-focused IPAs, but I welcome more balanced versions, more aggressive hop versions, NEIPA versions, milkshake, etc. It's my first time to the area, so I'm up for anything -- including more classic styles under the lager banner.

But I'm also interested in visiting places that might incorporate more local ingredients or something I can't get back my way (Minnesota). I do like pepper beers, too, if there are any spots/stores that offer those.

One thing I don't particularly care for are kettle sours. If there's a place doing more traditional sours, then I'm up for that.

Hop and Sting in Grapevine does more bitter American IPAs sometimes using southern hemisphere hops. I like that taproom and beer garden.

One of my favored breweries in DFW is Pegasus City but they only really do malt forward beers. I really like their Porter and their English ale is the only local one with distribution that isn't a caramel bomb.

On Rotation focuses on flavor additions beers in the Dallas area I think. Everything they make is flavored but I don't know how much of the flavorings are to give it a local flavor. When I went there were 3 or 4 beers with cucumber. I think they do peppers sometimes.

    I appreciate the tips.

    I'll skip the cucumber.

Well luckily they don't have anything with cucumber right now. I just checked their website and it looks like they have 12 house beers ranging a bit. I'm not listing them all.

    -jalapeno saison
    -rye saison
    -peanut butter brown ale
    -dreamsicle beer
    -chicory coffee milk stout

Not sure if Yellow Rose makes it to your home state, but try it while you’re here or grab bottles to take home. Should be EZ to find and the best accessible beer brewed here in TX.

I was trying to remember if we actually get Yellow Rose any more.

I thought I remember people complaining that Lone Pint was refusing to ship it up unless people buy their other beers like Gentlemen's Relish...

But I think I've recently seen 4 packs of Yellow Rose so the restriction may have just been limited to kegs.

I haven't heard of Yellow Rose, so it doesn't make it this far north. Definitely will check it out.

    Thanks!

Agree with @Roadkizzle on the recommendations. Gotta say.. Turning Point is a little bit more of a ways from Irving. Probably a good 20 if not more depending on traffic. But their beer is some of the best in DFW. Peticolas is a place to check out, especially if you’re more into hoppier/bold west coast IPAs. Never been to Celestial, but have heard good things. I do recommend Community as well, especially if you’re hitting Peticolas. Everything they do is solid.

    Cheers

If looking for bottles and stuff to bring back, check out Halls liquor store in colleyville/grapevine. Usually have yellow rose (been a while since I’ve been there) jester king, Martin House, prairie, as well as tons of other Texas beers.

Everything's going to be a drive from Irving. Judging by the OP saying closer to the airport Turning Point will be around 12-13 miles away. The same distance to Community, Peticolas, and Celestial.

Hop and Sting is ~15 miles.

Hall's will be harder to get to because all the highways are going away from you.

Ron's Corner Tavern just SE of DFW is my new favorite place near the airport. Excellent selection of local beers both on tap and in cans/bottles.

Coming into town this weekend, is the BA stout release at Turning Point something that would typically last a few days, or do they tend to sell out of stuff quick? Probably can't hit the brewery until Sunday afternoon

If you've got a night to spend hitting a couple breweries in Dallas I'd say you need to get to Celestial & Manhattan Project. Celestial is really taking the scene by storm, trying new things, etc. and Manhattan makes some damn good IPAs (Particles Collide, Half-Life). Braindead is worth a mention, as is Peticolas. If you can get out to the McKinney area I would definitely suggest Tupps.

    Celestial is trying new things?

All I see from them in fruited sours, NEIPAs, and Pastry stouts.
It seems very cliche to me.

I have been there and I tried 4 or five of their NEIPAs. They were good but I thought very generic. One was more interesting, had like an almost berry flavor in there.

Manhattan Project seems to try to be more of their own thing.
