I'm going to be in Chicago Thanksgiving week and wondered if the 3 Floyds brew pub is worth the short trip from downtown on a Tuesday afternoon and any other advice/tips are also welcomed. Thanks.

Yes, you should go. One of those places you should check out at least once.

Why not? Good beer on tap, decent food. Bring home a case of ZD.

Yeah, it's worth it. It's not far off the expressway, they have good food, and you can stock-up on a couple cases of good beer. Just be aware that on the weekends they are typically pretty busy. If you go around when they open on a Saturday, you'll likely wait in line for an hour to get in.

EDIT: Didn't notice you mentioned going on a Tuesday. Disregard my weekend comment.

I'd say it's worth it. It was on the way on my recent trip to Michigan. They've got a good number of beers you can't get otherwise and it's always good to drink your favorite beer right from the brewery. Just be prepared for heavy metal blasting and samurai movies playing inside.

People mention this all the time, but I've never actually experienced the music "blasting" there. Maybe I just have a higher tolerance/worse hearing than most, but I've never found it to be obnoxiously loud, other than DLD when they have live bands (when, IMHO, it should be obnoxiously loud).

I'm opening up a can of worms, but since it's on a Tuesday you may be there for a BA bottle release too.

Absolutely not. Going there is pure torture. The food is absolutely not gourmet in the slightest, with incredible taste combinations and beer pairings. Also, it's certainly not worth getting anything from the bar, since all they have is this crap on tap no one's ever heard of. And you absolutely should not get cases to go of that Zombie Dust stuff. Absolutely terrible.

Maybe "blasting" isn't the right word. It was definitely loud and by nature, seemed like it was blasting? You can definitely have a conversation with those at your table, though.

Will you be leaving from the city? If so, you are probably going to want to leave by 2...3 at the latest. And traffic coming back will probably suck from 3 until 7 (maybe later with the holiday).

    In a word: YES.

18 some odd FFF taps, likely the best food you'll find at any brewpub in the country, and generally a nice crowd to be around. I always have a great time chatting with the staff and the random people I happen to be seated by at the bar. I never regret the drive from Chicago to Munster. However, expect a wait over the weekend; it's a small place with a big following.

Ed. Note: There is sometimes talk here of bad service and unfriendly staff at Three Floyds. I've had nothing but great service and treatment every time I've been to the pub, probably because I'm courteous and have manners. Like most situations in life, if you act like an asshole you'll be treated like an asshole. Real talk.

Their staff is top notch and is (unfortunately) continually blamed for things on the forum that can only be tied back to poor management. These guys and girls bust their ass and are extremely knowledgeable.

^^This exactly! I've never had a bad experience there. Love the food, brews and tunes "blasting " through the speakers. I know some of the staff and they're always cool with me.

Hey Nate, were you there last night around 6?

Oh yeah. Even though the special releases have seemingly dried up, Tuesday trips to the pub have become a part of my weekly routine.

I thought that was you by your avatar. I was sitting at the bar to your right wearing the yellow hoodie talking to the 2 older guys. I used to only make special trips out there 1-2 times a month but I might start heading out there on a weekly basis so maybe ill see you up there on Tuesdays.

Just made a trip there from Minneapolis. I was staying in Milwaukee with a friend and we had been contemplating driving down and we finally just said "Fuck it! Let's go!".

It was busy, but the wait is worth it...I think they always tell people the wait will be longer than it really is..maybe to weed out the people that aren't patient enough to wait for some good beer. Anyways we were waiting maybe half the amount of time they told us.

Oh and on a side note...IMPERIAL PINTS for $5?!? Yeah. I think you should stop by.
