unless you are going for a specific beer release.. go on an off day and you'll have a good time. Get there 30 minutes earlier than opening.

We did that, and it was a nice, relaxing day. I really wish they gave samples during beer tours; but other than that, everyone was really nice.

They provide excellent service and are professional. The other complaint, besides the host making people wait outside, which is due to the fire code in Munster and them being shut down in the past for being over capacity, is the that they are smug and don't engage in conversation. They are a busy restaurant and operate at capacity most of the time. If you are expecting it to be like you local unknown rarely visited brewpub where the guy behind the bar has little to do and in turn can be chatty for a while then you are at the wrong place. The service there is closer to an extremely busy nice restaurant. The waiter at Gibsons doesn't have 20 min to talk to you about steak, he has a job to do.

To travel that far just to visit the brewery? I'd say no. If you plan on doing other things in or around the area and making it a day trip, I'd say yes for a short portion of the day.

My opinion is that no brewery is worth a whole day of your time.

I live 25 minutes away and have been there several times. I don't ask a lot of questions or squeal like a 12 year old girl at a Justin Beaver concert when I get ZD though, so I bets that where half the bad attitude of their employees comes from. Bartenders have always been nice.

I've been there a few times over the years. Long before I knew the hype around ZD and Dark Lord, when I'd ask a million questions and ask to try the beers before ordering a full glass.Even being a clueless beer drinker who was with her parents and husband I've never had a bad experience there. Ever.
Hell, even when my 65 year old dad goes there to buy beer, he's never had an issue.
Merit, I can't say everyone has always been that lucky....

Yes, it's worth it. I've been there dozens of times over the years, without a 'bad' experience. Will be going there dozens of times over the coming years.

Keep in mind that it's a busy place with lots of visitors. Don't be disappointed if they don't take the time to get into an in-depth discussion about every question you may have. Order the good drinks, eat the good food and enjoy the place.

I just visited the brewpub yesterday. It was awesome, as always. Great staff, great food and the beers are world class. Definitely worth it.

I'm sure a lot of people have had great experiences at FFF. I'm also sure that a lot of people have had poor experiences, and have a negative outlook on the place for very valid reasons.

We've been there a half dozen or so times, and for us the bad has outweighed the good – I doubt we'll go back. To answer the original question: If you like their beer, I would say it's probably worth the trip, once, and with appropriate expectations.

I've gone over 10+ times. Had my kids with me a handful of those times. Never had an issue. A lot of people think the wait staff are dicks because they have tattoo's on their face or giant gauges in their ears. I don't know the dudes name (seen him at metal shows in Chicago) with the tats on his face but I would ask for him by name if 3 Floyds did shit that way because that guy has been awesome every time I've had him.

Moral of the story: go in with an open mind, don't act entitled and you'll have a good time.

Why would you go 6 times if your experiences have been that bad?

The last couple of times, we went because we like some of their beer and were driving right by there. Also, I don't mind a little occasional loud metal with my food.

Been there probably 10 times in the last year and have never had a bad experience. The staff has been very courteous and attentive. Yes - I've had to wait in line for bottles of Zombie Dust or whatever at the Kiosk but that is my decision. I would definitely recommend visiting there at least once.
