When one pays about $4 for a 16 oz can of heady topper (arguably the best beer out there), I seem to be struggling why all bombers, regardless of beer product, is at least $8 for a 22 oz serving. Now one doesn't have to be a math major to see price gouging on the bomber format….Just curious on other opinions.

It is an indulgence. I don't like it, but the bombers I buy are not in 6 packs, thats why I buy them. I like it though, it;s that special beer that you sip, take time with, whatever. I hate the price point, but I've become immune now. I buy one bomber a week, so I try to keep it in perspective.

While its a rip-off, I enjoy when it allows a smaller brewery that may have capacity issues gets to experiment some and release a beer that otherwise wouldn't be feasible in 12oz, six packs, etc.

I think breweries that sell beer in 22 oz bottles charge a higher price because they want to price their beer competitively (meaning "on par" with, not lower) with other beer that comes in that serving size. I'm basing this on my own observations, nothing else.

With that said, my budget thinks they're a ripoff.

After paying 9.99 for 4 x 16 oz cans of Evil Twin Molotov Lite, I'm never paying $8 plus for a 22oz DIPA bomber again.

Yeah, I agree they generally are a ripoff, unfortunately. I keep in mind that half the price of each bomber is about what you're paying for "one beer" (actually one oz. less).

Hop Stoopid's a pretty reasonable one, at least.

Just depends on the brewery on the price. Some breweries have bomber's in the 4-5 dollar range and they are pretty tasty. Did you ever notice that some breweries have different quality in their brew's amongst the sizes, 12oz., 22oz., 750mls, might not be wording this right, but I've seen that the bombers were a top notch brew, but the 12oz. in general are mediocer.

    Cheers!

They are not a ripoff...I buy them with glee if they are what I want...this isn't poor-man's boozing...but it's a hell of a lot cheaper and tastier than an expensive wine habit...if that's what you want to call it...

I know it's not technically a bomber, but I was so turned off by the price of Founders Blushing Monk that I skipped it. I ended up buying an entire 12 pack of Sierra Nevada Hop Hunter for less than what I would've paid for the single bottle of Blushing Monk! I do buy some bombers/750mL bottles from time to time though.

Are you talking about 4-packs for $16 or individually priced cans? The less product you buy, the higher the price charged per ounce. And plenty of places sell decent bombers for $5 or $6

The bomber is a bottling format. If your chief concern is the best possible dollar-to-ounce ratio, you shouldn't buy bombers. Nor should you buy craft beer, which is considerably more expensive than macros. Craft beer is ripping you off, dude. Are you gonna stand for that?
