Their barleywine is made from first runnings (i.e. not boiled down and overly kettle caramelized) and has a pure malt character. To put something like that in a barrel would be an offense to the beer gods. Not a downer to me.

The "beer gods" are much more subtle than that. Plus, in the current beer scene, that would just be one more gimmick...err, "innovation": Barrel-Aged, Lightning-Struck Ale.

If you follow them on Facebook or Twitter they update everyday and even multiple times. Their website has changed drastically since the new ownership took over. They have a well-produced video for everyone of their beers. They started a blog. They're in every state in the Union.

This conversation alone may have improved Anchor's bottom line. I am dying for one now.

Yeah, if anything this thread reminds me to drink more Anchor. It's interesting if you check out their website and look at the different beers they are all pretty simple ingredient wise, a lot of 100% pale malt beers and beers that are just pale malt and crystal. True masters of the craft.

No way. Anchor is as good as ever. In fact I remember not that long ago when the only Anchor brew in a shop in my area would be Anchor Steam, more of their product has reached the shelves recently. Their offerings are solid.
