That's a great point. You might feel like a mooch, but THEY don't make you feel like one.

I know some "mooches" that ended up getting really into the hobby and now are some legit non-mooches

    I encourage moochery.

I rarely un-invite people from my house...but when I do...

    I'm often-times a mooch.

I might not be able to "keep up" with what some of my friends bust open, but I always try to bring something new, or open some of the best things I have. Also when going to a tasting "formal", typically everyone brings 2 bottles. If I bring homebrew, I never count them towards the two bottles.

If you are trying to be generous, then your friends will be able to tell, even if you feel you are not in their same league. Same goes if you are trying to be a mooche or bring the least amount possible. Both are pretty easy to tell.

Yes! I'm going to apply this logic to every situation I encounter in life from now on! Brilliant.

Man, quote of the year right here. I know participating in tasting groups can be daunting, but this is the sentiment we should all aspire to cultivate in each other. Well said.

I can somewhat relate with the OP. My cellar is definitely on the lower end of the spectrum compared to the other gentlemen in my tasting group. Luckily they're all great guys & never make anyone feel like they're mooching. If you're feeling insecure about your cellar just bring some cheese/charcuterie walez.

I'm mooched off more than not.

I just completed a trade with my cousin that was him donating a 4 pack of heady and me the remaining $29 in beer. Then I brought a growler of head high to the tasting. He invited 2 more people...who only brought a bomber each to share. Not a huge deal...I'm happy to share, but I footed 2/3rds of the bill on that tasting.

    Two things REALLY irritate me:

    1) I've got a buddy, that when I'm buying, he's a BA! When he's buying, he's Mr. Miller Lite!

    2) You go to a party and bring a nice six to drink, cause you know it's gonna be Bud Light city! Naturally, all your friends give you shit for bring "fancy schmancy" beer! You get to talking, lose track of time, go to get another of YOUR beers and there's 0-1 left!

On the flip side, I don't mind sharing w/people that appreciate good beer! And like someone pointed out, it all evens out!
