I should add that besides my two go-to glasses, I'll sometimes use branded glasses when I drink that brand, figuring that they picked a glass style that works with at least some of their beers. When I first got into craft and was advised to use a glass, I realized that I had no beer glasses.

I was buying a Kasteel Barista, when I asked the store owner if they had any beer glasses, figuring I would buy a generic beer glass. She ran to the back and brought me the glass below, giving it to me free. That became my favorite store. I recently asked about Blanton's bourbon which never hits the shelves, and they had one for me in the back.

Thanks! I particularly like their brewery building depicted in the base,

As long as it's not a shaker, it's fine. Or, the short, stubby glasses one bar in town uses, they look like an oversized rocks glass.

My main glasses at home are either a 16oz tulip or a Perfect Pint. Even though it's ugly, I use a teku a fair bit for the stash I keep at work.

Overall I find my tulip is my most versatile glass for all styles. I have some brewery specific glasses that i picked up in samplers that was cool to use for those beers. However find myself going back to my non-branded Belgians tulips or snifters because i think they capture the aroma better.

Same here. Tulip and snifters are my go to.

The glasses help get aromas and that helps with the taste since 80-90% of what we taste is what we smell (someone feel free to correct me if I’m wrong here).

My preference is I usually don’t do a full pour before the first few sips so that I can move it around in the glass and get the most aromas as possible.

You need a pilsner glass. Save some cabinet space and use it for your Kölsch too. [IMG]

    Yes, proper glassware is important.

@rgordon already posted my thoughts about beer style specific glassware: "People will say different glassware for specific beers makes a difference. The truth is that if they think so, it does."

So, if a particular beer drinker is biased in this way then it would be important for them to have multiple types of beer glasses to match a given beer style.

But for those who do not suffer from the bias just get yourself a nice tulip glass and drink all of your beers from this type of glass.

    Cheers!

I generally use a willi belcher, tulip, or spiegelau for ipas. I have a few tekus but found that I don’t use them as often. Ill use tekus for Farmstead ales / saisons. Typically a Cognac glass for ba stouts and barley wines, if not a tulip. Anything else (pils / lagers) usually get a basic pint glass.

for the longest time I didn’t use glassware

I forgot about the oversized tulip type glass from tree house, it’s like a goblet for hazies.

That's a Pilsner glass? I like it, but...

I have a Munich HB Becher that has a very similar shape. It's a favorite, but I stopped using it because I didn't want to break it. First world problems.

Does anyone have a link to a good Willi Belcher? I can't find one I like on Amazon. I remember really liking the ones used at Pfriem Family, but their shop only sells them in a box of 4. I don't need that many. I do prefer the 12 oz size.

Yes, it is important, but I'm also not big on matching the glassware to the beverage in specific. I pour everything into a Speiglau tulip, with the odd occasion being in a 14oz stemless wine glass.

I prefer the fit, feel, and versatility of that tulip.

That said, I appreciate when breweries match the beverage to the glassware, just not something I do at my place.

Things break. deal with it. Use the damn glass until it breaks. Then, you've got an excuse to buy a new glass.

I took 3 boxes of glasses to the Habitat for Humanity store a couple months ago, about 35-40 glasses, all nice stuff, kept about 15. I still only use the 2; tulip and perfect pint. BTW, shakers are only used for milk and juice in my place.

I feel that way about my big Tripel Karmeleit glass. I noticed that @JackHorzempa uses one in today's What are You Drinking Today thread.

1st Q: Yes. Glasses are fun!
2nd Q: I believe specific glassware helps to not only reveal a beers innermost tastes but also adds to the overall mouthfeel. Oh sure! I crush some brews without decanting, esp lighter beers, more so in summer. Some beers change quite a bit when they start to warm and specific glassware can help and are designed to capture changes that might otherwise escape and or let a beer aerate better. My 1st or 2nd thread on BA was "What are your 6 favorite beer vessels?" Well, I have many. There are a lot out there and I'm only scratching the surface. I'm sure you'll rcv many recommendations.
    1. Spiegelau IPA. That's what I use for NEIPAs/Hazy IPAs
    2. Kolsch Glass. For that beer alone.
    3. Tall Pilsner. For any Lager.
    4. Large Snifter. For Duvel, Imperial Stouts, BBS, etc.
    5. Dimple Mug. For Porters, Barley Wine...
    6. Tulip. Damn near anything!
and I like a regular old pint glass or a wide mouth Mason jar for standard West Coast IPAs. Right now I'm using a 12oz Willi Becher glass for a German Dunkel. It's great!! Strangely I don't have a Chalice but will soon when I hit my LQ for Chimay. Hope this helps a little bit. Cheers! Have a beer!
