If you no intention on smelling the beer the same amount of time as sipping it, then its pointless to use a tulip/ goblet; just use a shaker.

No, it's not elitist to hate shakers. That's what they were designed for: shaking cocktails. @jesskidden has posted a link several times explaining how Red Hook was the driving force in getting shakers into bars.

At home, I only use them for milk and juice. In the real world of going to breweries however, we're stuck with them.

Hating shaker glasses is hating being charged for a pint and receiving 12-13 oz. of beer.

I like them for lower ABV styles mostly. Here's a better question: Why do so many craft breweries sell shaker pint glasses in their websites/gift shops?

No your not alone, I hate drinking beer out if them, but I do like to collect cool ones.

Cause their probably the most common glasses used for not just beer, but other beverages as well, which probably makes them cheaper to buy in large quantities. Cheers! :grinning:

Well, you tell me- my wife took a Haze last night, grabbed a DFH shaker pint glass and poured that silky hop juice into a shaker. I've been meeting with lawyers all day about divorcing her. So yeah, pretty serious about glassware

To each their own. I use shakers for a lot of lighter beers. I don't think there is much different for many of them. However, Belgians, big stouts, lambic, etc., all really benefit from the right glass. Wheats and some lagers do as well, but it isn't nearly as noticeable to me.

Take a Chimay Blue out of a chalice and it is a completely different beer. Put a Boulevard Wheat in a shaker vs another glass of your choice and I don't ascertain much difference.

It's only snobbish if one feels obligated to lecture some hapless barkeep on the evils of shakers. If all I have to worry about is the style of glass my beer is served in I actually don't have anything to complain about.

Here's my take: Speaking as one who has been known to drink beer out of juice glasses, coffee cups, tumblers, vases, candle holders, and maybe even the odd shaving mug (stay tuned :stuck_out_tongue:), I'm sure as hell not going to make fun of someone for drinking beer out of a real beer glass.

Seriously, though, check out WBAYDN on just about any day of the week. You'll find plenty of BAs using pint glasses, and some of them are pretty sweet. I have a modest collection of logo shaker pints, several of which I have picked up during my travels. While I usually prefer a stemless wine glass or a tulip, I have no qualms about using a shaker pint or anything else that it visually appealing and complements the beer I am drinking.

Depending on the quantity they buy, they can be had for $.75 to $2+ per glass. Buy a glass for seventy five cents, and sell it for $4? That's a nice profit right there.

Bottom line. The beer is good, the beer is cold. I'll drink it in any glass with a happy smile. I'm not going to request any type of glass. If it comes in a tulip cool, if it comes in a shaker cool. All goes down the same way.

I was that way until I studied in Italy for a semester. My favorite local bar served every single beer in a shaker glass and I got used to it. A lot of my 'firsts' were in those shaker pints at that bar and now it just seems like an ordinary vessel for any style. Hell the first sour beer I ever had was Fou Foune on tap in a shaker there.

It's not elitist to prefer one glass over another. Glasses can improve the taste and aroma, and a lot of them just plain look cool. When you wince at seeing a beer poured in what you consider the improper glassware, then yeah you've crossed into get a life territory.
