Going to Washington and Oregon in a few days. Is it still acceptable to drink De Garde or have they been “cancelled?” Was thinking about stopping by taproom.
The emboldenactadvance account on Instagram doesn't seem to have any posts with allegations against De Garde in its Oregon stories.
Doesn't sound like it. I've yet to hear anyone in the NW forum group mention that they've stopped drinking their beer Sounds like you're aware of the allegations. I would say that if you're comfortable about stopping by, then by all means stop by. Personally, outside of the occasional glass of GI BCBS, I don't buy Ab-Inbev products. But I don't have any problem with those who do. As always, drink what you like, from companies you feel comfortable buying beer from.
Here’s a link with a screenshot to the post about de Garde (looks like Sexism #3 of Brienne’s Instagram stories. FWIW, I think it’s a personal decision. I’ve chosen not to buy anything from them since the allegation, but I also have a bunch of de Garde in my cellar I plan on drinking.
Oof. Thanks for the link, I guess I missed that one in the original drop. There were just.. so.. many. I really hope this industry is able to pull itself together and get moving in a more positive direction.
I thought there was a thread with a few more details, but I could be wrong. I have some de Garde in my cellar that I’ll still enjoy, but they won’t get another penny from me. Same as Skookum. I’m not claiming moral high ground: This would be tougher if they had the market cornered, but there are so many other quality establishments that offer similar libations that it’s easy (for me, at least) to vote with my dollar and not support breweries that harass or discriminate.
A brewer who posts here responded that it was de Garde, but I never heard any more about it and no one in the beer journalism field ever pursued it. It kinda died with that IG post. Skookum's head brewer left or is leaving soon for the east coast (no clue if he'll be brewing out there). Will be curious to see if their beer quality changes.
Interesting, and a good heads-up. I might be mistaken, but I believe the older guy who “aPoLOgIZeD” in the Facebook video was the owner, not the brewer though, right?
Yep. Hollis is/was the head brewer, not the owner who made that video. He never got involved in any of that stuff and I really don't know how he felt about any of it.
Well, I went and it was nice. Had 4 beers on draft. Picked up some cans and bottles. Was even able to proxy for a guy. No complaints here.
