Today I stopped by Bevmo,Walnut Creek to pick up beer.I wanted to try beer from one of my favorite breweries, clown shoes. At the store I grabbed the beer called "barista".It contains added milk sugars and espresso. When I got home,to my dismay I looked at the bottle and discovered the date of bottling to be 5-9-2016,nearly a year and a half before drinking. My question for you guys is,should I drink this beer?Should I try and get a refund? All help is good, thanks!

Per this site, its an 8.5% brown ale. It should be OK to drink, but I doubt any of the espresso flavor will be left. May make for an interesting cellaring experiment.

You will not get sick, so drink it. The original flavors/profile will have changed for sure.

Drink it or lose it IMO, not much to lose, enjoy and keep us updated.

Drink it, like mentioned above, some flavors will be gone or altered. I personally like browns with a little age on them, no matter the abv.

If you think the beer is too old I would suggest that you request a refund. A store that sells beer that is over a year old should have that brought to their attention.

If they offer you another beer in exchange check the date on that beer before leaving the store.

Non-cheers to retailers that sell old product.

Get your money back and write the brewery about it.

Sometimes. It's a blessing to get old beer that's still on the shelf. Sometimes. Not.
Your beer is smack in the middle of all of that. It's big enough to provide a support structure, but it's also got some additions in it that will very likely be nothing at all like it would've been last year, or could be sources of additional fermentation at this point.
Regardless. The store should know that they are selling beer that is super old, and it might be something they want to figure out.

I wonder if it tastes like Green Bell peppers.

If you have the patience to go get a refund, then do that.

Personally, I'd probably chill it, crack it, and drink it. Then go back and get a new one to compare it to.

    Life's too short

I have a feeling it will be fine. I think the one I had and reviewed here had about 1 year on it and I still found the coffee pretty good on it.

I drank the beer and it was surprisingly delicious. The espresso seemed to be there,it made me more alert. It did not taste extremely fresh though.Good but probably not worth the money.
