Nice one! Not everyone is afflicted by that condition, however.

Depends on the beer and it depends of the beer drinker. So the short answer on the whole is no!

Lagers aren't rare, are they really that much worse?

I can drink BCBS whenever I want (which is at least once every couple weeks) and I still think it's one of the best.

Like in wine a bottle of napa cabernet from a winery might be $700 over a $90 bottle. 99.9% might say the $90 bottle is just as good.

This is yet another post of opinion. You do know that everyone is going to have a different opinion. And everyone is going to post a different answer. So in all honesty. Is it even worth asking you already know the skew of answers you will get. Opinion will never be definitive therefore you will never get a good answer for a question like this. This is about taste in which we all have a different one. But yes, I do like heady topper better than yuengling. And I'll take any stone over Coors. Not because it's less abundant but better tasting.

Some rare beers may actually be better, but overall it's mostly a psychological thing. You appreciate drinking it more because it is much harder to find.

It's rare because it's made in smaller batches.. It's made in smaller batches because it's a beer made with more care, with more expensive and higher quality ingredients, and takes more times to brew or age.. All of that adds up to, typically, a good tasting beer. It's not good simply because it's labeled as "rare".

    No, not at all.

I saw that Surly Darkness came out in my area today and called up my local place to see if they were getting any, and the guy basically said he'd already had 25 people call and he's only getting a little in.

I'd love to try it, but I'm certainly not speeding to the store when it comes in, or hanging out before hand waiting for the delivery to come.

I'm sure it's a good beer, but nothing is that good

I find that as a ticker, if I can get multiples of anything, I am less likely to drink and/or seek it out, but that's just me.

An infinite question is often destroyed by finite answers. To define everything is to annihilate much that gives us laughter and joy.

Back on topic it's interesting to see the types of answers that are given by those who have access to beers others can only dream about or trade their second born to even get a chance to try. Not everything has to be black or white try to have some fun it's beer remember

YES! The word-of-mouth demand for "rare" has driven the growth of the Craft Beer Industry like nothing else.

You'll recall also (if you're old enough... ) that fifteen years ago, Fat Tire was comparatively rare.

the "betterness" (I know, not a word) is in the eye of the beholder. To some, Heady may be an everyday thing and may get old (or they are used to it), but if they get their hands on something rare for their area, it may be put on a pedestal.
