Specifically asking because as a newer BA, I'd really like to set up some shares. I haven't done one yet and been told it's the best way to expand your palate. Would also be a great way to meet other beer-minded individuals.

There is no designated forum for sharing events, but I sometimes see small scale groups make arrangements thru posts in the regional forums. Try looking thru your CA forum.

Naturally, they are a way to meet people, but they certainly aren't "the best way to expand your palate." Not sure why anyone would make that claim. They can be good fun. Good luck.

As @Mothergoose03 points out, shares are regional activities and there's no need to create extra regional forums just for this. Check out the Mid-Atlantic forum for the "This is Happening" thread on the first page to see one way it can be done.

Try your regional forum I've you've not spent much time there. From what I've seen in the mid-atlantic forum, they are sometimes spontaneously proposed there and often there are a few people local enough to sign on and get something running. So both of those two possibilities exist. Indeed in SE PA theres a bottle share held annually which has a home base, is quite well set up and fairly popular.

Use the regional forum to gauge interest, then once you have a time/place chosen create an event so that you can get a decent estimate of the number of people attending.

Note: I have always used a Google Doc Sheet (shared) for getting the list of beers that people plan on bringing to reduce the number of duplicates and too much concentration in a single style.

Great point made here. It's also cool if someone signs up to bring something with a little age, a vertical can spring from that. I've had a 6-year Dark Lord vertical, a 3-year Black Butte Anniversary vertical, and a couple others, where a few people each brought different vintages.

I also suggest extra tabs for setting up IP trades, and for food contributions.
