Is there a difference between barrel aged and BB?

    Not for the most part. Most beers that are barrel aged are aged in bourbon barrels (BB). If its aged in something different then the person describing the beer will usually describe the barrel (i.e. red wine mex cake)

    If it just says "barrel aged" that may mean that it was aged in new barrels (not previously used for bourbon or other spirits), usually to impart an "oak" flavor element. I would not assume a beer is aged in bourbon barrels unless the brewery explicitly says so.
