I'm looking for a place to help local BA's find any "rarer beers" that may go on tap. I'd like the same as well. Is there a place in the forums for this? I see Beer Releases, but this seems like it is Brewery Releases. Right now, I'm using an app called Untappd on my iPhone, but it's not the greatest.

I use untappd as well to track what I am drinking. I have found that if other friends are checking in beers at the same time they can see what I'm doing and may join me where I'm at. If you know of an event ahead of time, you could always add it to the event section. Or start a regional thread on it.

Sooner or later, someone will develop (or promote something that's already been developed) something to help unify this. Right now, this site is probably the best way to track things. And yes, it's imperfect. Often by the time a thread starts moving here, a keg is already done.

Perhaps a section under the specific region for "What's on Tap" might suffice? I think this would be awesome, because I've been drinking KBS while "doing work" all day at a local establishment and I feel bad that I'm hoarding it from fellow BAers.

The thing I've notice here, is that lately special releases have gotten a lot more quite. Take Pliny the Younger, in the lead up last year there was a lot more threads going up about where it was then this year.

Though I do remember pretty clearly last year a bunch of "BAs" calling a guy out pretty harshly for letting people know that one of the pizza ports had just tapped a keg of Younger. I stepped into defend his actions and got "lectured" as well.

Dumb. I believe this a community...and hopefully one that takes care of one another. If PTY was available by me (which it may never be), I would hope that one of you would make me aware of it. This entire post comes out of me drinking KBS all afternoon on tap at a place no one would guess it'd be at...I really want other BA's to enjoy it.

How would I go about suggesting a section to the brothers?

The Feedback forum would be a good place to start.

Beermenus.com is a great resource...it wasn't always, but it's sort of reaching a tipping point and becoming an industry standard...at least in Chicago.

I figured that was where you were. My buddy was there on Tuesday and said it was on tap. I won't be able to make it as I have a work party starting at 4:30.

I was pretty pissed at their treatment of a guy just trying to share with the community

While I agree it is nice to find out about these, it can also cause a real shit show. Case in point: My local watering hole got a keg of CBS when it was released. A BA made a event thread on here and then mentioned it a couple times in various posts. The tapping was going to take place at 4pm. By 3:15, you could not get in the bar. The Keg blew in 25 minutes, and not everyone there got a pour. The next big release was Black Note. Same bar, no event started on BA, and nobody mentioned it on here. Release was again at 4pm. I walked in at 3:52, walked up to the bar, sat at one of the many open seats at the bar, and got 2 pours of Black Note. It was fairly crowded, but not crazy, and a much more enjoyable experience.

I wish other cities followed beermenus.com like Chicago does...would make it much easier!

    Also FYI...tp://untappd.com/user/raymo55

But where is the line then? The majority of people on here preach about being good BA's (not hoarding at beer releases, not using Moms, Dads, strangers as mules, leaving one last good beer on the shelf for the next guy). Is then advertising on here about a beer release doing good for the community or bad?

I'm not sure anymore. With the way things are going, we don't really need to create any publicity for most things anymore. If I hear of something that I think will be of interest to the BA's I know, I shoot them a BM to let them know without alerting the entire community. Hopefully that helps control some of the craziness that hyping something on here can cause while still allowing the event to be successful.
