Monday: 3 pints of Tomos Watkins various, 1 pint of Sharps Doom Bar
Tuesday: 1 pint of Vale of Glamorgan Bluebird Bitter
Wednesday: 1 pint of Fullers Bengal Lancer, 1 of Tomos Watkins Cwrw Haf and 2 of Pen-Lon various
Thursday: 1 of Pen-Lon Bitter, 1 of TW Cwrw Haf, 1 of Keltek King, 1 of Naylors Pinnacle Porter and 1 of Pen-Lon Gimmers Mischief, and 1 of Dalliadd Da! (cant find it on the net, any help would be appreciated)

I'm starting to think if I drink any more ale i'll be sick of the site of it... Anybody else get this feeling? How much ale can you take? Do I have too much time on my hands? (yes)

    Sounds like a super hero.
    And that's some heroic drinking.

Some of my weeks look a lot like that, especially if I'm traveling on business.

If anybody had too much it was me but I loved every minute of it. I've been fortunate to have taken 14 trips to the U.K. since Feb of 2000. Cask beer and pubs have played a major role since the second trip. I just returned home yesterday and on this trip I consumed 42 pints over the 7 night stay. I never get sick of real ale but if I lived there or at the least stayed for a longer holiday I would have to pace myself a lot more. During a brief visit I don't hold back as real ale is not as easily found or done as well here at home, at leawst in my opinion. I plan on making a separate post soon as to beers I had and pubs I visited. One last thought, I will abstain from beer for a 6 day period. I do this for two reasons. One to rest from the over indulgence and the other is because even my favorite American craft beers taste like shit after a steady diet of real cask English ale.

Wow. That more beer than I drink in a month, sadly. Well, at least quality trumps quantity and my wallet is all the better for it. But when I get across the pond, I'm looking you up for a serious pub crawl. Cheers, mate.

Nothing goes down quite as easy as real ale.

On my last trip to London I reviewed 100 different beers in just over two weeks - but almost all were half-pints. I'm heading back next week, and I'm very excited about thirds being available this time around.

This is the beauty of drinking cask ale-the high flavour with low ABV made possible by using high quality ingredients and cask dispense means that although volumes seem large the alcohol content is quite modest. I'm not seduced by strong beers-I've given them a good try but on the whole I derive more enjoyment from the sort of beers I grew up with.Strong beers though do carry an enhanced risk of all the negative health factors unless you drink them in tiny quantities. But tiny quantities isn't what beer is all about.
Having said that, I do give my liver a rest for a couple of days each week, there's plenty of evidence to believe that to be a good idea.

I actually feel better after drinking 10 pints of ale than say, 20 half pints. I'm not sure why but all the mixing seems to give me a huge hangover. Last beer festival I had I felt awful the next day.

I'm not going to be drinking again for a while probably (until Sunday actually until I get to my beer stash at home and Zimbo's Westy 12, but after that not again for a while. At least not until my next student loan comes through. As much as I hate to say it: food>ale :slight_frown: )

I agree, i've tried quite a few American craft beers and Belgian ones too, but i'm done with that for a while at least, as nothing comes close to a decent quaffable pint of ale. I usually add a few points onto my beer reviews for quaffability, as something that "goes down a treat" is truly lovely and quite a hard thing to achieve in a beer, especially ones as tasty as some ales.

In answer to the original question: No, there is no such thing as 'too much ale'.

I often 'over indulge' but because it is clean, healthy and fortifying, it helps me sleep, aids digestion and soothes my brain.

In fact I may well consider an attack of over indulgence this evening!

Yes. I can wear my palate out on too much ale. That's why I like something with a carbonic bite at some stage in a session. And I love to murder a glass of wine late night after a long beery day.

And, marquis, I have to say that "high flavour with low ABV made possible by using high quality ingredients and cask dispense" is possibly the greatest non sequitur I come across in an age.
