Is this a date on my Speedway Stout?

As far as I remember reading, AleSmith never dated their bottles.

However, when sharing a bottle of Speedway last night, I noticed something I hadn't seen before. Underneath the foil, right near the mouth of the bottle, were two short lines of code. I forget what the second said, but the first said 103 11.

The bottle was purchased in early '13 from a store that often has stock that leans a bit to the older side, which makes me think it's possible that this is actually a Julian date code. Obviously, it's somewhat useless to put it UNDER the foil so you can't see it before buying the beer, but it would make it nice for anyone who's curious about the age of the beer as they drink it.

Whenever it was brewed, they did a good job - it was the absolute perfect beer for a night with temps well below zero. But I'm curious if anyone has any information on whether that could actually be a date code; something I though AleSmith didn't do.

Unless I am mistaken, Alesmith is indeed bottle dating now. There should be a "Bottled On" date in yellow ink on each bottle (usually on the side of the upper bottle neck).

Agreed that Speedway is a delicious beer.

    Cheers.

If they started in 2013, what would "103 11" mean? I would have guessed the 103rd day of 2011...

That is not our code, that's probably from the glass manufacturer as we've only ever used standard bottle on dates (ie: 1/6/13 in yellow ink on the neck of the bottle, not covered by the foil). We started bottle dating in early 2013. Cheers

Related question- I just bought a bottle of 2012 Decadence. I think that it was bottled in October of 2012. Is that correct?

Decadence 2012 was bottled on January 3, 2013... we were a touch late that year. Cheers
