Hello! Im brewing my first stout and this is day 8 in the fermenting and it's looking pretty weird, is this a normal process in the fermentation or is it infected? It smells fine and tastes good tho.
Can't see what you are looking at specifically, but that looks like clean up time for the yeast is happening, but what are those white specks? Is that light refraction? I doubt you'd see anything bad on the surface in 8 days. But... You may have an issue with cleanliness turning up in a week or two as a thin white really neat looking sheet on the surface. As well. What temp range did you ferment at, and what temp range is the yeast good for?
Thank you for your answer! Is the "clean up" normal? And yes, the white specks are only light reflections. But what i'm seeing is a small crack on the surface, like theres a thin layer on top, but it is not a white layer. What I was looking for specifially was the bubbles on the beer and not a thick krausen which I was expecting, so I was wondering if the bubbles was a developed pellicle. I ferment at 68F and the range temp for the yeast is 61 - 72F.
I saw today that white labs posted their weekly #pelliclemonday on Instagram and I thought it looked remarkably un-pellicle-y. In fact it looks pretty similar to your picture and I see both as simply some fermentation bubbles.
