OK, so I had 2 boxes out for delivery to me today via FedEx. One apparently made it OK and was delivered at 10:58am. There is an exception on the other. This is what is showing up in the online tracker:

    10:58 am Delivery exception
    Returned to facility for inspection
7:24 am On FedEx vehicle for delivery
5:48 am At local FedEx facility

So it looks like it made it to the delivery vehicle and then was flagged for an exception. It now says it will be delivered tomorrow (Saturday).

It was my understanding that FedEx Ground doesn't deliver on Saturdays although maybe for delivery exceptions, they do. What are the chances this even gets delivered at all?

Would it improve the chances of getting delivered if I request it to be held at a FedEx store?

    Fedex does deliver saturday.

Exception can mean anything, usually for me it means it goes back to the sender

Well, it depends. FedEx Ground does not deliver on Saturday. FedEx Home Delivery, does.

    How did you ship it?

Also, OP, if they inspect and find alcohol it will most likely be sent back to the sender.

It was shipped to me. On the tracker it says Service: FedEx Home Delivery. I'm assuming it was shipped via FedEx Ground.

Could really go either way. My guess is that you will get the box...but the condition of the box could potentially be compromised and the sender may or may not be getting some sort of warning about it...

So is it best to just let it ride and see what happens, or should I request it be held at a FedEx store? Or will it not really make much of a difference either way?

Yes, FedEx Home Delivery is a separate service that runs on a different delivery schedule but it utilizes the FedEx Ground "network."

I ended up getting the beer but it was repackaged and 2 of the bottles were not there. I'm quite surprised FedEx went through the trouble of doing that. Luckily the Heady and the Sip made it.

They took 2 growlers out of my package and returned the two bombers I sent out. Yet nothing leaked cause it was all still original packaging. Obviously someone made out with 64 oz of good beer
