Hi folks, I know that Defiant is located there, but was trying to get information on the town from locals, community, brewing scene, family friendly pubs or more 'drinking' establishments?

Anyway, if you've lived there or spent considerable time there kindly send along your impressions via beer mail.

While I'm largely looking for info pertinent to this site, any general info like "not only wouldn't I drink there, I wouldn't bother visiting" are also welcome. Or establishments, streets, neighborhoods to make sure I visit.

It's a town full of Irish pubs. Defiant is really the only craft bar in town. Couple great hidden gem stores not too far though. Cable Beverages and RT 59 Discount Beverage. Also not far just across the Tappan Zee Bridge($5 toll 1 way) is Captain Lawrence Brewing and just down the Saw Mill River Parkway from there is DeCicco's Ardsley which is one of the best beer stores you can ever go to. Bergen County, NJ is a whole half mile south of Defiant and the craft scene in Northern Bergen county is coming along a little slowly. You'll find some craft staples on tap but nothing special. For special stuff you'll need to travel down into southern bergen county and hudson and passaic counties.

(Sorry, not sure how to beer mail)

I grew up a little south of there in Jersey and still have family and friends in Pearl River. I've been out of the area for about 4-5 years though so take that into consideration.

Pearl River was mostly residential with a "main street" that stretched a couple blocks. Definitely not a tourist destination. Defiant opened after I moved so can't comment there but have only heard good things. Lots of Irish pubs up and down the main drag but I don't recall anything even decent in regards to beer when I was there.

If I returned to the area, the only must for me besides a visit to Defiant would be pizza at the Nanuet Hotel which is in the next town over (Nanuet). Could be a little nostalgia, but I always thought their pies were top notch. And they've got a divey bar attached to the restaurant but Guinness was about as crafty as they got.

These guys have it covered as far as I know. Defiant is cool and very friendly, beer ranges from average to good, pit bbq is pretty damn tasty. For stores hit Cable Beverages and Route 59 Beverage, you're sure to find some good stuff there. Cheers!

Thanks folks. Thinking of maybe moving there but it's hard to get a feel for a place when you don't know anyone who lives there, figured this would be a good place to find some 'non traditional' advice.

Sounds like an afternoon trip to Defiant and main street is in order in the near future.

If anyone else has anything feel free to weigh in here or beer mail

I live a few minutes from there and if you dont mind a 10 minute drive in nyack you have the pour house and OD's which have both stepped their game up as far as craft beer is concerned.
