Curious why people always feel the need to post “pm” in a trade thread? Won’t the big red number up near the messages tab give it away that you have sent a message? Seems to be a new thing and I’m not sure why?

Always been a pet peeve of mine. They get a notification if you message them, so just message them. No need for the “pm” and message. It’s like a dog marking their territory. Yet often times the pm reply doesn’t close the deal.

 

I’ve always thought of it as a way people are marking that they’ve got dibs.

 

That's exactly what it is! If I see that someone PM'd before me then I might not pursue it.

 

Don’t let that stop you. Per my post above, seen plenty of posts where the first pm reply doesn’t result in a close. Shoot your shot.

I still do. But if it's a very specific trade then sometimes it doesn't work out. I'd say it does discourage others from inquiring if they see that.

I agree and that’s why I think it’s poor form. There are no “dibs.” Why waste the post. Just message the person directly. If the thread were locked from the get go people would have to message the person directly.

 

Please let us know what you close it for when they do.

 

So here are my thoughts: While I agree people may do it to call dibs, I do think some of it may stem from PM'ing someone else n an Instagram FT/ISO post or maybe even Facebook post. If you message someone there about the trade they posted sometimes it's impossible for the recipient to find that message if they're a new acquaintance. If they PM'd you , the only way I've figured out how to find the message is by seeing who it was and starting to message them back and then you'll see their message. Also, I find it useful on BA if there's multiple incoming PMs And with all the flipping around between different things I'm looking out on here I somehow unknowingly turn off that little mail notification that's red

 

Speaking of pet peeves, mine is when someone posts a crap offer and then locks the thread so we can’t take a dump on it and say how bad it is.

Not sure why you want to know but sure thing.
After all it’s just beer man. To be honest, I’m used to FB and IG, where pm or dm just signals the person to look in their messages. I hardly think this is calling dibs on anything anyway. Regardless, cheers guys! Go drink something good!

 

Knowing if trades close and for what is helpful to others who may have similar bottles, etc., FT/ISO as a reference.
