It’s probably the only valuable information the non-trade parties have because it provides us information on what we would need if we were trying to obtain any of the X bottles involved in a trade, sometime down the line. It also helps those us who dislike the secondary market/valuation thing, and avoid it entirely, because we then know the bottles that match up well with other bottles which complete trades. I don't have Facebook or any of that, so my knowledge of secondary is extremely limited. I'm far more familiar with what bottles typically trade for other bottles.

I think it’s good community etiquette in general to do that. For my trades, I’ve made it a habit to go back to original thread and post what exactly was closed (example, https://www.beeradvocate.com/commun...0-iso-maman-black-magick.646682/#post-7022980 ). It’s not quite a full minute of effort either, but goes a long way.

    Good luck, OP.

I wish that there was a way to anonymously submit what trades are completed for.

Now, obviously this system would get abused, because anonymity is loved by shit bags - after all, without anonymity you wouldn't have members from LC selling bottles. BUT, I think if there was an easy way to anonymously submit completed trades, I think there'd be alot more information submitted/posted.

Historically, I've done 72 official trades, and I've submitted...I think 1 post on what the trade was completed for. Part of that is that sometimes they are with friends, or BA that have become friends, and so if one side is "winning" now then they will "lose" later, because it all balances out. No need to post that information, it's not really helpful to the public - it's an outlier (in both directions).

The other reason is that most people never "win" all the time, but the idea that someone points out that you "lost" on any individual trade can make someone regret their trade. In the past, sometimes I have "won" and sometimes I have "lost," but I have always been happy, and I've always looked at trades as a way to build relationships and make new partners. I'm generally not willing to make a post - when the trades is for well-established beers anyway - just so someone else can post and potentially make my trade partner feel like shit. I have to imagine that others feel the same way, but maybe I have a needless amount of anxiety over such silly things.

They pick up that habit from trading on FB. I wouldn't mind going back to locked threads and just messaging people directly.

Appreciate this response and approach. I’ll be more than happy to post it, if anything closes.

I can understand the reasoning for not wanting to post a completed trade in order to avoid trade partner feeling like they 'lost' in the trade in the eyes of many, but for me the very reason you listed before that (that both parties came away happy) is why I think it's important and valuable to post those completed trades. I've definitely 'lost' trades as viewed by those who choose to see trades only through secondary market perspective. A few years ago I traded an Ardea Insignis + Vanilla Rye for Assassin '16. I would say most would call that a loss on my end. But you know what? I loved that Assassin '16! I traded for another bottle after that.

I was and still am quite happy with the outcome. I hope that people don't feel hesitant letting others know the trade that resulted in both parties being satisfied. If all that people post is the 'win' trades that they completed (like most in Completed Trades subform, in my opinion), then we are further contributing to the rise in secondary value because it gives that notion that only those highest value bottles are worth trading for X beer.

But now I'm rambling. Best get another beer to keep fingers from running loose like this again! :stuck_out_tongue: . Cheers all.
