Why is it that almost every trade post involving a St.Louis beer now has to have someone chiming in about what the 'other' side needs? Let the guy post and if he gets no messages, he'll know it wasn't enough.
I get that, and I do see value of being able to respond on threads especially if it involves new traders, some extreme level 'off' in trade post, infected beer news that might be just coming out, etc,... but the OP has been on Beer Advocate for 3 years and has 65 completed trades. Pretty sure he knows what he's doing at this point. In many instances now though, it just reeks of protecting trade value.
someone needed to say it though. with Damon at 3pp, trying to go 1:1 with Maman is way overvaluing your bottle(s) and isn’t that just as bad as “protecting” values? also, @Curedmeatncheese is from Mass, and while they could be a societie member, it seems like a fairly helpful and neutral chime-in.
I wasn't taking a shot at St.Louis traders in general (and I hope it didn't come across that way) but just some of the posting relating to trading of St.Louis beers. I say same thing about J-Wakefield and other Florida beers, regardless if it's Florida traders or not. And I don't think posting what you're willing to trade for something you're seeking is 'protecting' trade value. If someone posted FT: Maman 18 ISO: KBBS, I don't think that's protecting Maman trade value... just what you're willing to trade. I think chiming in with what or how much the OP needs to add when you have no intention of actually trading, IS protecting trade value in my opinion.
i didn’t take it as any kind of shot at anything or anyone. and i agree that if the post is off then let the silence be the alarm to let you know so. however, if this closes 1:1 i’ll be shocked. but you never know...right said of eyes and whatnot.
